Day 5 - Just Two Charm Pack Quilts - Book Hop

Welcome to the fifth day of the Just Two Charm Pack Quilts book hop and the start to the second half of the hop!

Today's post is going to be highlighting the Diagonal Joy pattern and Process Flow. Anja of Anja Quilts  made a version of Process Flow and she is hosting a giveaway for a digital copy of the book so be sure to visit her, links below :)

You can find all links for the blog hop and more on the Just Two Charm Pack Quilts page.

Each pattern in the book uses two charm packs, an additional fabric (called fabric A in the pattern) and a background fabric).  The book is the Hamburger Helper for charm packs, stretching two charm packs each into large throw sized quilts.  The book also teaches how to combine two different charm packs, expand one charm pack into two, and how to create your own charm packs from your stash.

The 9th quilt in the Just Two Charm Pack Quilts book is the Diagonal Joy pattern.  The main version of the design was pieced and quilted by Cindy C.  I really love the background color for this version (Bella Solids in Stone) as it has the look of linen without the difficulties of sewing with linen.  The charm squares are each cut into 2 1/2" squares so in addition to this quilt being charm pack friendly, it can also be made with mini charm packs, leftover jelly roll bits, and smaller scraps.  The white fabric (the fabric A) forms the fun bowties on the diagonal.

The alternate version of Diagonal Joy was pieced by me and quilted by Johellen George.  The prints for this version were from a super old collection called Oh Deer by MoMo for Moda Fabrics.  I had made one of my first quilt patterns with the collection (On a "Jelly" Roll) and had some left over pieces of the jelly roll strips from all of those years ago.

The leftover strips were not enough to make the Diagonal Joy quilt so I was planning on bringing in some of my scraps and solids to have enough fabric when I figured I would do a quick search for the fabric on Etsy.  I was so surprised to see a charm pack of this really old collection on sale.  I purchased it really quickly and was able to put them into this quilt.

The 10th quilt in the Just Two Charm Pack Quilts book is Process Flow which is a twist on a classic zipper block.  This is one of the quicker and easier to piece quilt tops as there are no triangles and no seams to match. This design could also work with jelly roll strips (2 1/2" wide strips).

I pieced this main version of the quilt and the Bear Creek Quilting Company quilted it.  I used the PB&J collection by Basic Gray for Moda fabric for the prints.  I had a layer cake of the collection so I was able to make this quilt and still have enough fabric to make another design.

The alternate version of Process Flow was pieced and quilted by Darleen S. and used some fun Tula Pink prints set on white and light pink.  I really like how the different background colors between the main (dark blue) and alternative (light pink) versions impact how the quilt looks.  The alternate version has a much more subtle and lower contrast background making the print portions stand out more.

Anja of Anja Quilts created a version of Process Flow for the hop.  Here is just a sneak peek, hop over to her blog or Instagram to see the finished quilt.  I love the pop of the colors against the crisp white and black!

I hope that you enjoyed seeing these quilts and will check back tomorrow for more quilts :)  Remember, you can get your signed copy of the Just Two Charm Pack Quilts book and a free additional pattern now through the end of the book hop.

  1. They are all such beautiful quilts. I really love process flow and the way the colors move through it.

  2. I love the quilting by Bear Creek Quilting for the main version of Process Flow!

  3. I'm enjoying seeing the different takes on these quilts and hope mine doesn't disappoint, even though my choice of an old layer cake hasn't made me happy. I'll keep going though & hopefully muddle through. Thanks for hosting, take care & hugs.

  4. I love the Process Flow quilts! Will be making one soon!

  5. One of the things I love about quilt alongs and quilt classes is seeing how all the different fabric combinations change the final quilt. It's always a learning experience on color theory.

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a comment!
