Checkers Quilt Pattern Release

I am happy to announce that my Checkers quilt is finished and the pattern is being released today!  The Checkers pattern is now available:

Checkers is a fun little twist on the classic nine-patch block by putting the blocks on point and adding sashing.   My cats are already busy doing their quality assurance on it :)

The quilt pattern is a great throw sized quilt to highlight some of your favorite fat quarters, fat eighths, or scraps.

The cover quilt is made with:

  • Various scraps in pinks, teals, blues, and yellows
  • Bella Solids in Smoke and White

The start of this quilt was a home decorating magazine cover with a picture of a fun, teenaged girl's room.  I pulled color inspiration of the picture and then pulled different fat quarters and scraps from my stash with those colors.

I used my favorite Warm & White batting by the Warm Company and Aurifil thread for the piecing.  I wanted to use a darker teal for the binding, but I did not have enough of any one print, so the binding is a mixture of two similarly toned prints.

For the backing, I went with an older Tula Pink wide-back print.

I went with my one of my favorite quilting designs for Checkers, a large paisley shape.  I love the larger scale of the design, the flow it gives the quilt, and how it adds texture without taking away from the piecing.

Checkers is a lap/throw sized quilt pattern that is fat quarter, fat eighth, and scrap friendly.

Checkers is on sale in my pattern shop as a digital pattern at a special introductory price of $9.75 now through Saturday, July 2nd.  Once you make an Checkers quilt of your own, you can share it via social media using the hashtag #CheckersQuilt.

In both my pattern shop and Etsy, you can combine this intro sale price with an additional coupon for more savings. Use the code "TWOPATTERNS" for $2 off 2 patterns and "THREEPATTERNS" for $4 off 3 patterns.

I would like to thank Yvonne @Quilting Jetgirl for her amazing tech editing skills and quilting ideas.  I would also like to thank the Warm Company for the Warm & White batting (my favorite!).

I design almost all of my quilt patterns using EQ8 (a computer-aided quilt design software from Electric Quilt) and I love seeing how different colors and prints can create such different looking quilts.  Here are four different versions:

I took a couple more pictures of Checkers... including one of Piper the cat modeling the quilt :)

I have been more and more active on Pinterest (check me out here).  If you would like to save Checkers for later on your Pinterest boards, here is a pinnable image.

Remember, you can get the Checkers pattern in the Meadow Mist Designs pattern shop and Etsy for only $9.75 through Saturday, July 2nd.

You can combine this intro sale price with an additional coupon for more savings (these codes work for both my shop and Etsy).

Use the code "TWOPATTERNS" for $2 off 2 patterns and "THREEPATTERNS" for $4 off 3 patterns.

Melodic Mystery ++ Less than 1 Month Until Kickoff!

The Melodic Mystery Quilt, a free monthly mystery quilt along will kick off in less than one month on Thursday, July 7th!

The Melodic Quilt is a free quilt-along that will run from July 2022 through April 2023 with a set of directions revealed the first Thursday of every month.

We will kick off the quilt-along on Thursday, July 7th with the fabric requirements and some helpful hints to pick fabrics and colors (you will have an entire month to gather fabrics before the cutting instructions in August).  There will also be links to optional quilt kits on July 7th.

Here are some more details about the upcoming mystery quilt...

1. Quilt-Along Instructions -The monthly instructions will always be posted to my blog as blog posts and on this main page.  Within each instructional post, there will be a link to an easy to print, downloadable version of the instructions.

2. Prizes - There are going to be prizes for the Melodic Mystery Quilt!  Details to be announced.

3. Quilt Kits - A quilt kit is not required for this quilt along, but for those that would like that option, I am working with a number of quilt shops to offer quilt kits in variety of styles and colors.  Links to all of the kits will be posted on July 7th.

4. The Un-Mystery Quilt - There will be a sneak peek option for those that would like to see the design before deciding to join in.  This year's sneak peek will be a little different than in past years.  There will be no mailing list to signup for, the sneak peek will be available as a linked document right on this page starting Thursday, July 7th.

The only rule is that you have to keep the design completely to yourself as to not spoil anyone else's surprise.

5. Facebook Group - We have over 8,800 active members in our Facebook Group (Meadow Mist Designs Facebook Group) sewing together! Join the group today so you can share and see everyone else's fabric, progress pictures, and finished quilts.

6. Previous Mystery Quilts - The instructions for my previous mystery quilts are located in the Mystery Quilt tab above (and are always available so you can start them at any time).

7. Questions? If you have any questions regarding my mystery quilts you can e-mail me at or leave your question in a comment below.
