Favorite Finish Monthly Linkup - August 2019

Welcome to August's Favorite Finish Monthly Linkup!

My favorite finish for August is my Candy Stripes pattern and quilt I made for the 2020 Quilter's Planner.  The pattern is fat quarter friendly and pops in some bright and saturated Paintbrush Studio Painter’s Palette Solids.

Many thanks to Paintbrush Studio for the fabric, Aurifil for the thread, and The Warm Company for the batting.  Also, many thanks to Yvonne of Quilting Jetgirl for her super tech editing skills!

You can find this and 12 other patterns (including a sampler quilt designed by Karen Lewis) included as a pattern magazine with your 2020 Quilter’s Planner (affiliate link).

Ready for the party?

Here is a reminder of the party details:
  • The linky party will open at 12:01am EST on the last day of the month and will be open for 5 days, through the 4th at 11:59 pm EST.
  • For instructions on how to link up blog, Instagram, or pictures from your computer (new - there is now a way to just upload a picture without a web link) to the party, click here.

Mini Wholecloth Finish ++ Aurifil Artisan

As an Aurifil Artisan I have the opportunity to take part in some monthly challenges. The challenge for August was to create a mini whole cloth quilt using a Paintbrush Studio Painter’s Palette solid fabric and matching Aurifil thread.

The fabric I received (randomly selected) was Painter’s Palette solids by Paintbrush Studios in Wisteria (color 121-017) and the matching thread was Aurifil 2560 in 50 wt.  Wisteria is one of the Paintbrush Studio trending colors for 2019, you can find them all right here.

I really like using 50wt for free motion quilting as it is thick enough to see, but thin enough that it does not build up on the quilt if I have multiple lines of stitching on each other.

I divided the whole cloth into triangle shapes using my walking foot then filled in each section using different free motion quilting designs.  I was able to quilt very small and dense because the quilt was such a small and manageable size.

I bound the quilt in the same Wisteria color and now the quilt is living on my coffee table in my family room.

Here are some outtakes of the photo session where Reeses and Oreo want to get into the picture.

Thank you Aurifil and Paintbrush Studios for including me on this fun challenge!

Candy Stripes ++ 2020 Quilter's Planner

I'm very excited to be part of the Quilter's Planner once again!  In the 2020 Quilter's Planner*, I contributed a new fat quarter friendly pattern called Candy Stripes.

I started the design with a fat quarter bundle of Paintbrush Studio Painter’s Palette Solids, picked by Jackie Gering and loved the bright saturated colors.  I wanted to set them against a crisp white background.

I played around with a number of designs on EQ8 and fell in love with this design, it reminds me of candy in their twist wrappers.  The design works perfectly for your favorite fat quarters and I am planning a Christmas version to make next.

Candy Stripes was quilted by Johellen George, a local longarm quilter who used the most perfect and whimsical double loop quilting design.

This Candy Stripes pattern is one of 13 patterns (including a sampler quilt designed by Karen Lewis) included as a pattern magazine with your 2020 Quilter’s Planner.  I checked and you can still get last year's pattern magazine with the sampler quilt I designed on sale for only $6.30!

The Quilter's Planner gets better each year and this year Stephanie has introduced a number of customizations so that the planner works best for you.

1.  You have a choice of 6 different covers, including 4 designed by Karen Lewis.  Which is your favorite?  I went with the teal with plus sign design (no surprise there :)

2.  You can choose your start day (Monday or Sunday) and there are 4 different layouts for the weekly section of the planner.

Kitty of Night Quilter once again produced all of the photography for the planner, this year in Costa Rica, including all of the photographs in this post.

Remember, you can pre-order your planner right here (affiliate link), the planners are shipping in October this year so you can get a jump start on your planning for next year! If you pre-order, you get 10% off!

Links in the post are affiliate links, if you click through and take action, I will earn a portion of the sales.

Needle and Foot is sponsoring a $25 gift certificate to their shop.

While Needle & Foot has been around since 2014, Bernie began stocking fabric in January of 2017. She strives to carry a wide variety of quilting cottons. In her Etsy shop, you will find a large selection of small fat quarter bundles, an affordable way to have a collection of pieces from one line without having to buy the entire fat quarter bundle. Also, Bernie has recently expanded and now carries a selection of voiles and stretch knit fabrics for sewing garments. Providing individual help is a pleasure for Bernie so don’t hesitate to contact her with questions or concerns when selecting fabrics.

Needle and Foot has continued to add new quilt kits for the Mosaic Mystery quilt and now you can get them with free shipping! You can find all of the kits here.

OLFA is giving away a 45mm Ergo Cutter in Pacific Blue (US and Canada mailing addresses).

OLFA makes superior cutters, mats, rulers and more, the perfect tools to cut fabrics and make accurate quilts. OLFA just launched their new, navy blue colored mats and cutters.
