Day 1 - Just Two Charm Pack Quilts - Book Hop

I am so excited to be kicking off the book hop for my new book Just Two Charm Pack Quilts!

The hop will be 8 days long and each day will highlight two quilts from the book as well as some additional quilter's versions of different quilts from the book.  In total, 16 quilters are joining in on the hop to bring you some additional colorways and takes on the quilts (plus a bunch are running giveaways on their posts!!).

You can find all links for the blog hop and more on the Just Two Charm Pack Quilts page.

Today's post is going to be highlighting the Gift Box pattern (along with the version from Heather K. of Quilt Pattern Marts) and Betty (along with the version from Lori S. of Little Quilt Company)

Let's get started :)

ABOUT THE BOOK

Each pattern in the book uses two charm packs, an additional fabric (called fabric A in the pattern) and a background fabric).  The book is the Hamburger Helper for charm packs, stretching two charm packs each into large throw sized quilts.   The book also teaches how to combine two different charm packs, expand one charm pack into two, and how to create your own charm packs from your stash.

GIFT BOX

The first quilt in the Just Two Charm Pack Quilts book is the Gift Box pattern.  Blocks are created using square in a square and half-square triangles and then combined with a narrow sashing to create this design. I love how when the sashing is added, a secondary design emerges.

The main version of the Gift Box in the book was sewn by Jackie C. and quilted by Carol A. using the Fabric from the Attic collection by Giucy Giuce for Andover paired with some Andover solids.  Fabric from the Attic is one of my all time favorite collections and I have also used it in my Melodic Mystery and my Tea Leaves quilt.

The alternate version of Gift Box in the book was pieced by me and quilted by the Bear Creek Quilting Company.  Where the main version used white as the fabric A and gray as the background, the alternate version uses gray as the fabric A and white as the background.  The fabrics were from Maureen Cracknell's holiday collections called Cozy and Magical and Plaid of my Dreams.  I love that it is a Christmas/holiday collection but has such unexpected colors including gold, teal, pink, and black.

Heather K. of Quilt Pattern Mart created a version of Gift Box for the hop using some fun charm pack prints paired with orange and deep brown solids.  Hop over to Heather's Instagram and Blog to see the finished quilt.

BETTY

The second quilt in the Just Two Charm Pack Quilts book is Betty.  The blocks in Betty reminded me of granny squares from crochet and so I decided to name the quilt after my grandmother Betty :)

What I love most about this block and quilt is that depending on the placement of the darker and lighter prints within each block, the block can look completely different.

I sewed and quilted the main version of Betty and used the Twenty collection by Katarina Roccella for Art Gallery Fabrics.

The alternate version of Betty in the book was sewn and quilted by Valorie K using scraps of pink, red, and aqua prints from Bonnie and Camille for Moda.  In contrast with the random placement of prints in my version, Valerie placed the colors in the same place within each block for a scrappy yet cohesive look.

Lori S. of Little Quilt Company created her version of Betty for the hop using some very soft and pretty colors.  Her quilt looks so snuggly!  Hop over to Lori's Instagram and TikTok accounts to see her finished quilt.

I hope that you enjoyed seeing these quilts and will check back tomorrow for more quilts :)  Remember, you can get your signed copy of the Just Two Charm Pack Quilts book and a free additional pattern now through the end of the book hop.
