Day 3 - Just One Charm Pack Quilts Book Hop

Welcome to the third day of the Just One Charm Pack Quilts book hop!  I hope that you are enjoying a more in depth look at each of the book quilts and are loving seeing how others are putting their personal spins and touches on the designs.

Today, I will be sharing the Ships Ahoy and the Magic Carpet quilts from the book.  In addition to these quilts, Paige will be sharing her version Baskets, Bernie will be sharing her Ninja quilt, and Myra will be sharing her version of Goose in the Pond.

I'll be sharing sneak peek images of each of their quilts so you can visit each of their blogs to see the full quilts and learn more about their design and quilting processes.  (Links to purchase the book are at the end of the post).

SHIPS AHOY

The Ship's Ahoy quilt came about from designing square in a square blocks using the charm squares in the center and playing around with different colored corners.  The block design reminded me of a life ring preserver so I paired the design with an older nautical themed Bonnie and Camille for Moda collection called Daysail.  I love how Carol's version, which used a soft pastel and floral charm pack, gives the design a completely different look.

Here is a picture of Oreo "helping" me as I attempted to cut the backing and the batting in preparation for Carol's quilting of Ship's Ahoy.

MAGIC CARPET

I had actually designed Magic Carpet years ago using just three fabrics in a larger size, but never got around to making it or turning it into a full pattern.  When I was creating designs for Just One Charm Pack Quilts I came across the design again and thought that it would be perfect with the addition of charm pack prints with the two supporting fabrics.

The first version was made by Cindy K. using a fun, older charm pack from Amy Butler for FreeSpirit called Natural Beauty.  In the second version, I created by own charm pack by choosing an inspiration fabric and then pulling coordinating fabrics based off of those colors.

This was one of my favorite styled shots in the book, I need to start hanging more quilts on my walls in my house.

PAIGE OF QUILTED BLOOMS - BASKETS

Paige is the co-author with me on my first book, Modern Plus Sign Quilts, and a simply amazing quilter.  Her color selection, piecing, and quilting are always impeccable.  Hop over to her blog, Quilted Blooms and Instagram, to see the full reveal of her version of Baskets.

BERNIE OF NEEDLE & FOOT - NINJA

Bernie blogs over at Needle & Foot and retiring her fabric Etsy shop (head over there for some great sales).  Bernie has a wonderful heart and runs a large quilt donation drive for the Mercy Hospital.  Hop over to her blog to check out her version of the Ninja quilt pattern.

MYRA OF BUSY HANDS QUILTS - GOOSE IN THE POND

This is Myra's second (out of three) quilts that she made for the book hop.  This one is her take on the Goose in the Pond quilt pattern from the book.  Myra's pattern company, Busy Hands Quilts, specializes in fun quilt patterns where many use pre-cuts and strip piecing.  The patterns contain multiple sizes where ever possible.  I love the red and blue prints in this Goose in the Pond!

ABOUT THE BOOK

Each pattern in the book uses a single charm pack, an additional fabric (called fabric A in the pattern) and a background fabric).  The book is the Hamburger Helper for charm packs, stretching one into a full quilt :)

You can grab a copy of Just One Charm Pack Quilts on Amazon or get a signed copy in my shop.

As a bonus, if you purchase a signed copy from my shop, you can get one additional free stand alone pattern (digital or printed) by adding the book and a stand alone pattern ($12 value) and then using the coupon code HOPPATTERN (through the end of the hop 7/29) during checkout.

See you tomorrow!!

  2. Looks like Paige and I both have similar tastes - we used very similar Kaffe fabrics for our quilts!! What a fun coincidence. Myra has sure been busy wit this hop. :-)

  3. I love Ships Ahoy! What a cute design and name. Great for any age. Often it’s hard to find a maritime themed pattern. This is perfect!

  5. Congrats on the release, Cheryl! So many fun designs in the book, but I was instantly drawn to Baskets! The way the baskets are arranged in a circular design is so unique!
