Day 9 ++ Modern Plus Sign Quilts Book Hop ++ Intertwined and Bear Claw Plus

Welcome to the ninth day of the Modern Plus Sign Quilts book hop! Today, we will be sharing the last two quilts, Intertwined and Bear Claw Plus as hosting a giveaway of a thread collection generously donated by Aurifil.

Intertwined is a twin sized quilt design with nested plus signs that I designed and Paige pieced and quilted.  Here's a fun back story on making this quilt...

Paige and I wanted this quilt to be for a boy and when we saw Latifah Saafir's “Grafic” collection (the first screenprint collection of Me + You by Hoffman Fabrics) we knew that was the right collection for the quilt. I was originally supposed to make this quilt but when the fabric arrived at Paige's house, she called me up to let me know that the prints were too fabulous and that she was going to make it :) I got half of the leftover fabrics so I was still very happy.

The batting was Warm & White, and Aurifil threads were used for the piecing and quilting.

Debbie, Laura, and Beth used the Intertwined pattern to make some new quilts and items, please check out their blogs...

Bear Claw Plus
Bear Claw Plus is a lap sized quilt and one of the more time consuming designs (due to all of the half square triangles and seams to match).  This is another of the team effort quilts with me designing it, Paige piecing it, and Johellen George doing the fabulous quilting.  I love the Bear Claw Plus design and how the secondary patterns emerge when the blocks are put together.

The fabrics came from Robert Kaufman, the batting was Warm & White, and Aurifil threads were used for the piecing.

Janice and Joanne used the Bear Claw Plus pattern to make some new quilts and items, please check out their versions...

Today's giveaway is for a 10 piece small spool collection of Moonshine by Tula Pink for Aurifil. Many thanks to Aurifil for sponsoring this prize.

If you are enjoying seeing the variations of the quilts in the book and are inspired to make one of your own, you can purchase a Modern Plus Sign Quilts book (amazon links are affiliate):

  1. Learning new techniques is one of the reasons that I love to read blogs. Laura's process for random scrap selection made me laugh, but I might use it for my next scrap quilt. It certainly made for a fun quilt in the Intertwined pattern.

  2. I love Intertwined. It may be my favourite. Thanks for the blog hop. So interesting and inspiring.

  3. Well, Cheryl, this hop has been an enormous success. It was well planned and your choice of participants didn’t disappoint! Although not within my budget right now, your book takes top position on my wish list, which you know is a mile long because I want everything I see! Congratulations!

  4. Wow, what an awesome hop this has been. It's been a pleasure and treat to follow along!

  5. I have enjoyed this hop so much - all the quilts & quilters have been fantastic! Thank you, Susan

  6. While I haven't had a chance to go through all the hop posts yet, this particular quilt really caught my eye. Love it! I can see why you and Paige both wanted the fabric as it works really well. All the quilts i've seem on IG are just great. I look forward to relaxing with a cup of tea and going through the book to absorb all the goodness. Well done.

  7. Congratulations, Cheryl. This is a lovely book with beautiful and fun fabrics. Sorry, I've been out of touch - my 3rd back surgery was in February, and this is a long recovery. But reading the posts, seeing the book is wonderful medicine. Looking forward to making some of these. I am very excited for you and Paige.

  8. Another couple of great quilts! How am I going to have the time to make them all?!? :)

  9. Great hop and all the Quilts were pretty amazing. I enjoyed visiting each blog and reading the stories behind the making of these quilts.

  10. Love the hop - really must by the book . . . have been trying to resist as I am trying to "not shop". So many books, so little time. This is a source of inspiration . . . a keeper!

  11. This has been a great blog hop Cheryl. Congratulations to you and Paige. I love the book but have yet to use it so it's nice to see all this inspiration.

  12. This has been so much fun to follow all of these talented quilters who turned your patterns into stars. Thank you for this bit of brightening during the dog days of winter.

  13. This hop has been so much fun to follow along and this truly looks like an awesome book! It looks like everyone went all out to make their version of one of the quilts.

  14. I really liked Janice's black and white version of Bear Claw Plus. It's been a very fun blog hop. I can't wait to clear my UFO list a bit so I can start some new projects from this book.

  15. After seeing the first blog posts of your book, I had to order it. Beautiful quilts and wonderful book--congrats!

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a comment!
