Welcome to the sixth day of the Modern Plus Sign Quilts book hop! Today, we will be sharing Faceted Rings and Petal Plus as well as hosting a giveaway of two charm packs.
Faceted Rings
Faceted Rings is one of my favorite quilts from the book so I am happy that it is on the cover of the book. It is a paper pieced baby sized design and one of the more time consuming and challenging patterns in the book. Because it is a baby quilt, only 9 blocks are needed (which does make the quilt comes together more quickly).
The quilt was made using Kona Cotton Solids from Robert Kaufman, the batting was Warm & White, and Aurifil threads were used for the piecing and quilting.

I designed, Paige appliqued and pieced, and Johellen George quilted Petal Plus (it was a team effort!). Having not designed too many applique designs, Paige had to tell me that my first attempt at combining an orange peel applique shape and plus signs was not really doable, applique-wise. I went back to the drawing board and Petal Plus was born :)
The fabrics were Farm Fun by Stacy Iest Hsu and Bella Solids all by Moda Fabrics, the batting was Warm & White, and Aurifil threads were used for the piecing.
Julie used the Petal Plus pattern to make a new quilted item, please check out her version...

DeleteIt really does sound like Petal Plus was a big team effort! Do you feel more confident in designing applique for any future designs as a result?
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun blog hop. Each time I see Faceted Rings, it moves further up my "need to make" list.
ReplyDeleteI think Faceted Rings is my favourite pattern so far.

ReplyDeletePetal Plus is just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is stunning. It's great shown in the photo with the furniture as it really shows how spectacular it is in real life.
ReplyDeleteHi Cheryl, I love how modern and vibrant that quilt looks. I also agree that having quilted the different sections in different designs really helps the all over effect by making it interesting to look at. =) Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous, and my favorite of all the quilts so far!
ReplyDeleteLove these two patterns. I've already clicked through to the hop participants, and their versions are beautiful. Your comment about a design that contained not-so-feasible applique has me intrigued ... Could you share more details about that design process in a future blog post?!
