Spinning Stars was originally published in Modern Patchwork in late 2017.  The pattern is a geometric, paper pieced pattern with a secondary star pattern that emerges as the quilt top is assembled.  Spinning Stars is an advanced beginner to intermediate level pattern and assumes basic paper piecing skills. 

Disappearing Oranges was originally published as a pattern of the month by the Modern Quilt Guild.  This is a modern pattern that was designed using the Subtracting for Minimalism technique. It is designed for a confident beginner or intermediate quilter.

While the pattern contains instructions to make the cover quilt as shown, feel free to change up the colors, block placement, and number of blocks to make the quilt design your own.

Camden Road Pattern Release & New Pattern Shop!

I have two pieces of news to share today: the first is the release of my newest pattern Camden Road and the second is that my new pattern shop is now open!

You can find Camden Road in my shop (digital and printed versions) and on Etsy.

Camden Road is fat quarter friendly pattern based on the traditional Mrs. Bryan’s Choice quilt block.  I love the design and how it highlights all of the different prints against the two background fabrics.

The quilt is named after the street I grew up on. You might have seen some of the pictures of the quilt in progress on my Instagram account.

Camden Road contains instructions for 3 three sizes: baby, lap, and twin.

The flying geese in the quilt blocks are made using the no-waste (also called the four at a time) method which is perfect because you need the flying geese in sets of four for the blocks. 

The cover quilt was made using a variety of fat quarters on a white background.  Warm & White batting from the Warm Company and Aurifil thread were used in the quilt. 

A used a favorite Anna Maria Horner print for the backing which incorporates many of the colors used in the front of the quilt.

Flock of Geese was originally published as part of the 2018 Quilter's Planner and know as a stand alone pattern, I have expanded the instructions for both a baby and lap sized quilt.

Flock of Geese is a modern take on the traditional Birds in the Air quilt block designed for advanced beginner / intermediate level quilters.  To create the quilt top, I pulled various teal, green, blue, and yellow colored printed from my stash.

I assembled the quilt top with the blocks on-point, giving a different look to the traditional Birds in the Air design.  I quilted Flock of Geese with randomly spaced diagonal lines to form a cross-hatch pattern using Aurifil 50 wt in white (color 2024). The diagonal lines are in a variety of spaciongs from about 3/8" to 1".  I like the texture the quilting gives, but I must admit that it was very time consuming.

Layered Addition ++ Pattern Release

I'm excited to share the second of two new patterns today, Layered Addition! (You can read about the other new pattern, Flock of Geese, here).

Isn't this a fun plus sign design? I had this design sketched out in my pattern book since when I began brainstorming quilts for my plus sign book but could not decide the best way to piece it.

When I was revisited the design I figured out the quilt could be made using only 2 block types! Once I figured out how to construct the quilt, it came together quickly and easily.

Next came the fun part, the quilting. I decided to do some custom quilting in this quilt, using a different design and matching Aurifil thread for each layer of the plus sign. I picked the 50 wt Aurifil thread, I find it to be the perfect weight for dense quilting.

I originally designed this pattern made the quilt and pattern for the International Association of Quilters and am happy to be able to release it as a stand alone pattern.

Yesterday ++ Pattern Release

Today I get to show you my third and final pattern release of 2018...Yesterday.

Yesterday was first published in the spring of 2015 in Make Modern magazine and was juried into QuiltCon 2016.

The design is a modern interpretation on a classic quilt block dating back to the late 1800’s, the “double hour glass” block which is also sometimes referred to as the “wondering lover” block.  I modernized the quilt top design by enlarging the block so that the block became the entire quilt top.

For my version of Yesterday, I used Kona Cotton Solids in White and Black by Robert Kaufman. The batting used was Warm & White by the Warm Company and Aurifil thread was used in the piecing and quilting.

HOW CAKE SLICES CAME TO BE

I designed Cake Slices, a layer cake friendly pattern, for the very first Quilter's Planner over 2 years ago. 

The quilt was made using a layer cake of Hello Darling by Bonnie and Camille for Moda and Kona Cotton solid by Robert Kaufman in navy. The batting used was Warm & White by the Warm Company and Aurifil thread was used in the piecing and quilting.  

ABOUT THE PATTERN

Cake Slices contains instructions for 3 sizes, baby, lap, and queen. The pattern also contains a coloring diagram of the quilt top to audition possible color schemes.

ADDITIONAL COLORWAYS

I love to play with coloring quilts, so I played around with Cake Slices to see how the quilt would look with a light background instead of the dark blue.

Quilt Theory ++ Up the Ladder ++ Pattern Release

I am excited to be able to share some secret sewing and a new project with you today... (and a giveaway at the end of this post :)

I would like to introduce Up the Ladder, my quilt pattern for the 3rd pattern collection of Quilt Theory. Up the Ladder was inspired by traditional quilt ladders used to showcase and store quilts and is a lap sized, jelly roll or mini charm pack friendly pattern.  The pattern combines beginner level piecing into a strong geometric design.

Many thanks to Michael Miller for providing the beautiful Cotton Couture solids and to Aurifil for supplying the thread for the piecing and quilting.

I quilted Up the Ladder in a topography like design using 50 wt white (color 2024) Aurifil thread.  The 50 wt worked well to create texture but not stand out too much on the darker colored fabrics.

Our goal at Quilt Theory is to create simple and modern quilt patterns, and we design collections of patterns printed on small cards and one-page PDFs. As a group, we have become a strong team as we worked through writing, testing, editing, and quilting the patterns in our collection.

For our third collection, we picked out a color palette that each of us worked with. We hope you find a lot of inspiration in our collection to make quilts from your favorite bundles in your stash.

Pike's Peak Quilt Pattern Now Available

I am excited to announce that the stand alone version of Pike's Peak is now available.  You can find the pattern in my pattern shop (digital and print versions) and on Etsy.

Pike's Peak uses solid colored half square triangles to create a modern and minimal design with plenty of negative space. The pattern now includes instructions for both wall (about 25" x 25") and lap (about 50" x 50") sized quilts. 

 
The quilt was featured in the 2nd issue of Make Modern Magazine and juried into QuiltCon 2015 in the Use of Negative Space category.

What is also very exciting is that this is my first pattern release using my new professionally designed cover and my new graphics and page layout software. I hope that you enjoy the look of the pattern, I am slowly but surely revamping all of my existing patterns too :)
