Macaron Mystery ++ Triangle Units

Let's make some triangles :)

Welcome to the second month of instructions for the Macaron Mystery Quilt!  This month we will be making a variety of triangle units.

There is plenty of time to join in on the quilt along, we are just getting started! Last month we cut our fabric for the quilt top.  You can find all of the information about the Macaron Mystery, including schedule, past instructions, links to the Facebook group, sneak peek, and more at the Macaron Mystery Page.

The Macaron Mystery Quilt is a free quilt-along that will run from July 2021 through April 2022 with a set of directions revealed the first Thursday of every month. The Macaron Mystery is a lap size design, that can easily be made larger with the addition of borders.

Now that the Macaron Mystery quilt along has ended,
you can find a easy to print, full version of the Macaron Mystery
pattern for sale in my pattern shop.

    Half Square Triangle (HST) Units

    Combine 27 fabric A squares 5" x 5" and 27 Bg2 squares 5" x 5" to make 54 A/Bg2 HST units 4 ½" x 4 ½".

    1. Place a fabric A square 5" x 5" and a Bg2 fabric square 5" x 5" right sides together.  Draw a diagonal line using a removable marking device on the back of the lighter square (shown as the solid line).

    2. Sew a ¼" seam on either side of the solid line (shown as the dotted lines).  Cut on the solid line and press seams open or toward the darker fabric.

    3. Trim each A/Bg2 HST unit to 4 ½" x 4 ½".

    4. Repeat to make a total of 54 A/Bg2 HST units 4 ½" x 4 ½".

    Divided Triangle Units

    Combine 3 fabric A squares 5 ½" x 5 ½" and 3 Bg2 squares 5 ½" x 5 ½" to make 12 divided triangle units 5" x 5".

    1. Place a fabric A square 5 ½" x 5 ½" and a Bg2 fabric square 5 ½" x 5 ½" right sides together.  Draw a diagonal line using a removable marking device on the back of the lighter square (shown as the solid line).

    2. Sew a ¼" seam on either side of the solid line (shown as the dotted lines).  Cut on the solid line and press seams open or toward the darker fabric.

    3. Trim each HST unit to 5" x 5".

    4. Cut each HST in half once on the diagonal to make 2 divided triangle units 5" x 5".

    5. Repeat to make a total of 12 divided triangle units.

    Bg1 Triangle Units

    Cut 3 Bg1 squares 5" x 5" in half once on the diagonal to make 6 Bg1 triangle units 5" x 5".

Many thanks to the generous sponsors of the Macaron Mystery Quilt!

    2. I got the sneak peek, I want to make mine longer by a row. Could I get an approximation of how many of each piece i need to cut to make that happen. Thanks. This is going to be a great one.
