Chloe Quilt and Pattern

I'll be sharing the second of the two new patterns this week (you can find the first, Raindrops, here) today and will be back tomorrow with a post all about a collaboration with FreeSpirit Fabrics.

Chloe is a beginner friendly pattern that utilizes half-square triangles to make a lap sized quilt.  The pattern is both charm pack and layer cake friendly.

You can find Chloe (and Raindrops) on an introductory sale each for $10 through September 26th.  In my pattern shop, you can combine these intro sale prices with coupon codes for more savings. Use the code "TWOPATTERNS" for $2 off 2 patterns and "THREEPATTERNS" for $4 off 3 patterns.

FABRICS & MATERIALS

Working with FreeSpirit, they were kind enough to send me the fabrics for this project.  My version of Chloe used the True Colors collection and Fairy Flakes in Paper from the Linework Collection, all by Tula Pink for FreeSpirit (this might be a hint about the collaboration :)  I love the bright colors of the True Colors collection on the crisp white background.

I love a striped binding and Tula has some great stripes where each stripe is ½" so it really makes a visual impact.  I cut mine on the bias to get the diagonal look to the binding.

For the backing, I used Big Buds in Wonder from Tula's Curiouser and Curiouser Collection. All of FreeSpirit's sateen backings have a such a smooth finish and great feel.  I love not have to piece a back too!

I used my favorite batting, Warm and White from the Warm Company, and Aurifil thread for the piecing and quilting.

If you would like to make this exact quilt you can find all of the fabrics to make your own "kit" (except the binding) in one shop, Modern Quilter, at Etsy (affiliate links):

QUILTING PLAN AND DESIGN

I really wanted to give Chloe an all over texture without taking away from the piecing, so I chose a large paisley design (one of my favorites to do because it looks great and is a quicker design to quilt). I used the soft white 2021 Aurifil thread in 50 wt to blend with the background and not stand out too much on the prints.

CHLOE PATTERN DETAILS

The Chloe pattern is written at a confident beginner level that comes together quickly and easily.  The pattern contains instructions to make a generous size lap quilt at 64 ½" x 72 ½".

The pattern is now available in the Meadow Mist Designs pattern shop in both digital and printed format.  Chloe is also available in my Etsy shop.

Chloe is on sale in my pattern shop at a special introductory price of $10 through Sunday, September 26th.  Once you make a Chloe of your own, you can share it via social media using the hashtag #ChloeQuilt.

In my pattern shop, you can combine this intro sale price with an additional coupon for more savings (you can get Raindrops and Chloe together for an even better price!). Use the code "TWOPATTERNS" for $2 off 2 patterns and "THREEPATTERNS" for $4 off 3 patterns.

MAJOR OOPSIE

While making the cover version of Chloe, I made a huge whoopsie, can you see what I did from the picture below?

I put all three columns pointing upwards instead of having the middle column facing downwards.  I am embarrassed to admit that I did not notice this while piecing, quilting, or even photographing the quilt.  It was not until I had the images edited and was placing them into the pattern instructions that I saw the error.  My heart dropped :(   I had already sent the renderings to FreeSpirit for a catalog so I could not change the pattern to match the quilt (I must say that I really do like the design both ways).

Luckily, this was a fun and quick quilt to piece and FreeSpirit was nice enough to send me enough fabric to remake the quilt, correctly this time.  It wound up being okay though because my daughter loved the incorrect version so she has it in her room and the correct version went off to FreeSpirit.

Have you ever messed up following quilt directions?

WHOLESALE PATTERNS

MANY THANKS

I would like to thank Yvonne @Quilting Jetgirl for her amazing tech editing skills and quilting ideas.  I would also like to thank the Warm Company for the Warm & White batting (my favorite!) and FreeSpirit for the fabric.

  3. I am the worst at following patterns, which I think is hilarious given that I'm a pattern writer. I guess I fell like, "well, I wrote the pattern, I should just know how it goes together" and then I get in trouble. I'm so glad FreeSpirit was great to work with and sent you more fabric to make a second version!
