Toasty Teal - Mosaic Contest Entries

A couple of days ago, I saw on my Bloglovin feed that Rachel from Stitched in Color was having a another fabric mosaic contest.  For each mosaic contest, Rachel gives a theme and some inspirational photographs and then you get to go play, creating different fabric bundles from the fabrics available for sale at Bobbie Lou's Fabric Factory. I think that making digital fabric combinations (almost) satisfies my fabric tooth as much as buying actual fabric!

The theme this time was Toasty Teal and Rachel pulled together some beautiful inspirational photographs.

To make my bundles, I usually go through all of the shop's fabrics, coping any fabrics that catch my eye and I think might work into PowerPoint.  I usually start with a focus fabric in the center of the mosaic and then play around with the other fabric thumb nail images, arranging them around the center fabric.

For my first bundle, I loved the various floral prints and wanted to see how I could play with a bunch of them together in one bundle...

For my second bundle I loved the combination of teals and dusty pink from one of Rachel's inspiration photos and used that as my starting point...

Which of the bundles is your favorite?  I think that the Floral Teal is mine, combining so many different floral prints is really outside of my comfort zone and it was fun to stretch myself.

Summer Crush - Mosaic Contest Entries

I think that making digital fabric combinations (almost) satisfies my fabric tooth as much as buying actual fabric!

The theme this time was Summer Crush and Rachel pulled together some beautiful inspirational photographs.

Soft Botanical - Mosaic Contest Entries

A few days ago, I saw on my Bloglovin feed that Stitched in Color was having a fabric mosaic contest sponsored by Gotham Quilts. Rachel gives a theme and some inspirational photographs and then you get to go play, creating different fabric bundles from the fabrics at Gotham. I think that making digital fabric combinations {almost} satisfies my fabric tooth as much as buying actual fabric!

The theme this time was Soft Botanical and Rachel pulled together some beautiful inspirational photographs.

When I heard the theme, my mind first went to some tiny and soft floral prints, but I could not find any prints like that at Gotham so for my first bundle I started with a larger floral print and then pulled in some complimentary blenders and some green to balance the composition...

For my second bundle I started with a pixelated print that had some greens and blues and reminded me of a floral in a way.

Dreaming at Dusk - Mosaic Contest Entry

A few days ago, I saw on my Bloglovin feed that Stitched in Color was having a fabric mosaic contest sponsored by Lark Cottons. Rachel gives a theme and some inspirational photographs and then you get to go play, creating different fabric bundles from the fabrics in Lark Cottons. I think that making digital fabric combinations {almost} satisfies my fabric tooth as much as buying actual fabric!

The theme was Dreaming at Dusk and Rachel pulled together some beautiful inspirational photographs. 

When I heard the theme, my mind first went to the moment in the dusk right before it is completely dark when all of the colors seem to fade out of existence.  I pictured muted blue/greens and grays as the last whisper of daylight fades. Here is my bundle I pulled together...

For my second bundle, I tried to capture a different moment at dusk, the vibrant sunsets where the clouds light up in beautiful shades of pink.  The clouds are in contrast to the rest of the sky and the ground which are fading to darker browns, blues, and grays.  Here is my second bundle...

Nuanced Neon Mosaic Contest Entries

A few days ago, I saw on my Bloglovin feed that Stitched in Color was having another fabric mosaic contest sponsored by Mad About Patchwork.  Rachel gives a theme and some inspirational photographs and then you get to go play, creating different fabric bundles from the fabrics in Mad About Patchwork.  I may have ordered a bit too much fabric the last few months so I hoped that making digital fabric combinations would satisfy my fabric tooth without having more fabric arrive at my house (you can have a sweet tooth so why not a fabric tooth?).

The theme was Nuanced Neon.  For my first bundle I went with the colors I think about first when I think neon: bright, warm, saturated colors.  I added some slightly more muted warm shades for balance.  I think that these fabrics would look great in a quilt design with some strong geometric shapes on a crisp white background.

For my second entry, I focused more on the "nuanced" part of the theme.  I first selected some bright neon blues, because a bright neon blue is not the first color I think of when I hear neon.  I then paired the neon blues with some low volume prints, most of which had a blue component to tie into the neon blues.  I think that the prints, as arranged below, would look awesome as a repeating plus block in a quilt.
