Happy New Year :)
Welcome to the seventh month of instructions for the Macaron Mystery Quilt! This month we will be sewing some of our units from previous months together.
There is plenty of time to join in on the quilt along! You can find all of the information about the Macaron Mystery, including schedule, past instructions, links to the Facebook group, sneak peek, and more at the Macaron Mystery Page.
The Macaron Mystery Quilt is a lap sized, free quilt-along that will run from July 2021 through April 2022 with a set of directions revealed the first Thursday of every month.
Now that the Macaron Mystery quilt along has ended,
you can find a easy to print, full version of the Macaron Mystery
pattern for sale in my pattern shop.
Snowball Units
Combine 46 A/Bg2 HST units 4 ½" x 4 ½" and 46 fabric D squares 2" x 2" to make 46 snowball units 4 ½" x 4 ½".
Note: Only 46 (of the 54) A/Bg2 HST units 4 ½" x 4 ½" and 46 (of the 52) fabric D squares 2" x 2" will be used in this step. Save the remaining HST units and fabric D squares for a future step.
1. Place a fabric D square 2" x 2" right sides together with A/Bg2 HST unit 4 ½" x 4 ½" such that the fabric D square is on top of the Bg2 triangle corner.
2. Draw a diagonal line using a removable marking device on the back of the fabric D square (shown as the solid line).
3. Sew along the marked line. Trim ¼" from the seam line and press the seam open or towards fabric D to make a snowball unit 4 ½" x 4 ½".
4. Repeat steps 1-3 to make a total of 46 snowball units 4 ½" x 4 ½".
Doublet Units
Combine 60 B/Bg2 flying geese units 2 ½" x 4 ½" and 60 C/Bg1 flying geese units 2 ½" x 4 ½" to make 60 doublet units 4 ½" x 4 ½".
1. Sew together 1 B/Bg2 flying geese unit 2 ½" x 4 ½" and 1 C/Bg1 flying geese unit 2 ½" x 4 ½", pressing the seam open or towards the B/Bg2 flying geese unit to make a doublet unit 4 ½" x 4 ½".
2. Repeat to make 60 doublet units 4 ½" x 4 ½".
