To participants - please make sure to e-mail me (MMDmysteryquilts at gmail dot com) with a picture of your quilt top or finished quilt, the pictures are due by February 15th to be included in the parade and be eligible for prizes.
To everyone - Please stop by Monday-Wednesday (March 5th - 7th), to see the Magnolia Mystery Parade showing off everyone's versions of the quilt pattern.
Just as a reminder, all of the information and instructions for the Magnolia Mystery quilt can be found in the Mystery Quilts tab above.
For my mystery quilt, I used white as the background and a mixture of red Bonnie and Camille prints for the Fabric A, a teal-green Cotton & Steel print for Fabric B, and Kona pepper for Fabric C and the binding.
For the quilting, I used a white Aurifil thread (2021 in 50wt) in an allover paisley swirl type design. This quilt is destined for my couch so I wanted to make sure the quilt was cuddly and not too stiff.
I am going to enter my Magnolia Mystery in my local quilt show, so I blocked the quilt before binding to make sure the quilt was nice and flat and square. I made a little video of my quilt getting a bath on Instagram (you can see it here) and I have a tutorial on blocking quilts right here.
While I was taking pictures of my quilt I noticed that 4 of the full magnolia blocks together would make a really nice baby sized quilt. Though the magic of photoshop, I "made" my quilt into a baby version (which finishes at about 40" square):
I think that a baby version of the Magnolia Mystery might be on my to-do list now :)
Please come back on March 5th-7th for the full parade, there are some absolutely beautiful versions of the Magnolia Mystery Quilt!
I am linking up to Let's Bee Social @ Sew Fresh Quilts, Needle and Thread Thursday @ My Quilt Infatuation, Whoop Whoop Friday @ Confessions of a Fabric Addict, Thank Goodness Its Finished Friday, Finish It Up Friday @ Crazy Mom Quilts, Fabric Frenzy Friday @ Fort Worth Fabrics Studio.
The curvy quilting is a lovely contrast to the angles of your piecing. Love, love, love it (and all the ample negative space!).
ReplyDeleteIt's so beautiful! I love all that negative space, it really shows off the center focal point. I wish I had joined this QAL!
ReplyDeleteI swore off QALs last year, but this would have been totally worthy. Your quilt is so pretty! I love the colors, the contrast, and all that open space. A baby quilt would be lovely!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Will have to keep this in mind for baby quilts, too.

I absolutely LOVE LOVE your version! I think I need to add this to my gotta-make list, maybe just the baby size even...sad I missed it this year, but thank you for leaving the instructions up for us late-joiners. :-)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!
ReplyDeleteLove your colors!!! This is just too cute. Love the "baby quilt" size version, too.
ReplyDeleteThis is so fabulous! The quilting is just perfect for this pattern.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is stunning! So vibrant! Thank you for your mystery. I do enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteKind regards,
Holly
I love how your version turned out. I'm supposed to get mine back from my long arm quilter this weekend, so excited!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! The baby quilt is also a big "WOW". I am in the process of setting up "new to me" longarm quilting machine and dismantling my old one. Didn't realize how many bins were under my old frame. Lots of work but once it is done I will be able to quilt my version. Thanks again for a great mystery!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed the mystery! Thanks for taking part!
DeleteYour version is just gorgeous! I love the idea of making the baby quilt size! Your QAL was fun to watch grow.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful color choices - the red and teal and black make a striking combination. I'm still working on mine - hope to finish in time for the parade. I love this pattern. Thank you for the mystery.
ReplyDeleteYou always have the best Mystery quilts, and this one is a winner again. I didn't have time to do this one, both hopefully you'll have another that I can join. The baby quilt is very cool - any parent would love it.
ReplyDeleteAnother amazing design, Cheryl! Your quilting is a great complement to it too :)
ReplyDeleteThe quilt looks beautiful. I love the idea of a baby sized version!
ReplyDeleteI love that colour combo. And the quilt looks great too!
ReplyDeleteI really like how the white negative space flows into and through the blocks. Looks great.
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely quilt Cheryl! look forward to your next version.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt! And I also love the baby quilt idea.
ReplyDeleteFabulous finish, Cheryl! The dark with the reds and green is so striking!
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful Cheryl. Still working on finishing mine for the Parade.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful design, and your finish is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI love how your version came together and the baby quilt version is very striking, too!
ReplyDeleteThe negative white space and the quilting bring so much focus to the beautiful coloured centre design. It's lovely, Cheryl!
