Work in Progress Wednesday

I have not shared a Work in Progress post in forever... here is a little sneak peek into a few things I have going on in my sewing room.

1.  Swoon

I made this one lonely Swoon block and unknown number of years ago (maybe 3-4 years?).  After making one, I never felt the need to make another.  The one block was 24" square (finished) which I felt was too small to do much with so it has been sitting in my closet.  I am planning on adding 5" borders on all sides to bring it up to about 34" square which is a more usable size.  I will be donating the finished quilt through my local modern quilt guild to be a comfort quilt for a child in the Greenville Hospital System that has been removed from their home.

2.  Midnight Mystery

Similar to the Swoon block, I made this one Midnight Mystery block (24" square finished) when I was testing the Midnight Mystery Quilt instructions.  This block will get the same border treatment as the Swoon block and will also become a donated comfort quilt.

3.  Taste the Rainbow

I am working on an all paper pieced design for my guild challenge.  The challenge was to use the Birds in the Air block in modern way to make a quilt that was less than 36" square.  I finally finished piecing all of the sections and am now working on putting the quilt together.  I will be adding some hand quilting to this quilt which should be fun.

So that is what I am working on, what is on your cutting table today?

  1. Upsizing your 24" blocks to make them quilts to donate is a lovely and generous idea. I'm sure the quilts will be really appreciated. And I am super excited to see your Birds in the Air project progress!

  3. You have a perfect way to finish two lovely Quilts for donation. Your birds blocks are so clever. Will it be a circular rainbow of birds? Can't wait to see it.

  7. I love the swoon block, although I find it so difficult to use patterned fabric. Today I am catching up with my Bee commitments, I really hate that I am so late this month but they will both be posted tomorrow.
