Tova Top in Doe

For my last homemade, wearable item for QuiltCon I made a second Tova Top by Wiksten.  Because this was my second time making the pattern (the first Tova I made using a Chicopee print from Denyse Schmidt) I used some of my new, favorite print from the new Doe Collection by Carolyn Friedlander for Robert Kaufman.

This time around I made the shoulders and bust as a small and graded out to a medium at the hips.  The shirt came together pretty quickly and easily as I had figured out most of the steps during the making of the first Tova.

I will be wearing this shirt on the Saturday of QuiltCon when I have a lecture taught by Carolyn Friedlander.

So a question - how many of the same style shirt is acceptable to have in your wardrobe?  :)

  3. This is awesome!!! Want to make one for me!? I've given up on the hope of having time to make a top for myself for QuiltCon since I've never sewn a garment before. I love your fabric choice and the style is really cool!! I'll keep the Tova top in mind for when I do finally attempt garments! As for how many... I agree with the above comments: as many as you want, at least one in each color!!

  4. When I was a teenager, my mom made my clothes and only knew one pattern, so ALL my dresses were the same. Once in awhile some Mean Girl would comment, but mostly it didn't bother me and became a sort of signature look. Maybe because of that, I tend to wear the same tshirts in different colors pretty much every day. I would like to have the confidence to branch out, frankly, but once I find something that works, I pretty much stick with it.

  6. Oh that's gorgeous, what a great combination of pattern and fabric! And as for how many, well I'd say as many as you make before you get tired of the pattern!

  7. How cool to wear this to a workshop with Carolyn. :) When I *really* like something, I have quite a few of them in my wardrobe in different colors. Especially shoes - if I find a shoe I like and is comfortable, I'll buy 3 or 4 pairs and set them aside. It has saved me from having to shoe shop in this crazy neon bright fad that is happening right now.

  8. Hmm... I think you can have as many of the same shirt as you want! Unless it was really, really unique (read as bizarrely notable), I don't know that anyone other than you would notice. :) The choice of using Doe is perfect for this shirt... keep it up and I'm going to want to make clothes too! Thanks for linking up with TGIFF!
P.S. I'm very jealous that you're going to QuiltCon!
