There was some feedback that some quilters would like an alternative layout with less negative space so Stephanie asked me to work up an alternative design. This new alternative is called the Pyramid Layout and it uses the same blocks as the original, just in an different layout. The Pyramid Layout is also a lap sized quilt.
You can download the instructions for the Pyramid Layout right here (this pdf gives instructions for the numbers of blocks to make and how to assemble the quilt top, the pattern magazine is still required to make the pattern as the pdf does not contain the block instructions).
Here is the original Hexie Snowflake version:

The magazine is not available yet as a stand alone, but they might be sold separately in a few months if there are any are left.
Are you planning on joining in? Which is your favorite, the Hexie Snowflake or the Pyramid Layout?

The alternative layout is amazing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great alternative layout - I love how snowflakey it is. Of course, there is nothing wrong with that original one either. Both are great quilts.
ReplyDeleteI love both layouts and look forward to seeing all the versions made in the sew along this year!
ReplyDeleteLove them both ~ that's going to make it SO hard to choose!
ReplyDeleteI love this alternate layout and I just may quilt along. If I can figure out a colour combination in time......alas I am still way behind your other quilt along so it may not be a good idea. We will see.
ReplyDeleteThe pyramid layout looks great!
ReplyDeleteI love both of the, the snowflake even more because of the lots of negative space. I love the idea of using of traditional blocks in modern way.
ReplyDeleteFor me it was love for the first sight. I would like to use it as a quilt for our bed.
I love both patterns, my hubby loves your original pattern.. so I know that is the one I have to do first
ReplyDeleteI really like both patterns, but with the current project list I'm not adding anything new for a bit. I'll just have to enjoy seeing all the other versions pop up in blogland.
ReplyDeleteI am just starting to sew. My one simple squilt last year for my son's wedding. would love move ideas and patterns to make more. Wish I had started earlier in life.
