Quilt Along Intro
The Meadow Mystery Quilt will run from July 2016 until April 2017 with a set of directions revealed the first Thursday of every month. The mystery quilt will finish at approximately 60" x 60", a very nice lap size and is an advanced beginner level containing half square triangles, square in a square units, flying geese, and basic patchwork. (There is no applique, Y-seams, or paper piecing in the pattern.)
The directions will be posted to this blog (and can always be found in the Mystery Quilt tab above) and e-mailed to the mystery quilt distribution list. Want to be added to the e-mail list? Simply sign up here to get a more printer friendly version of the monthly instructions.
Facebook Group - I encourage you to join the Meadow Mist Designs Facebook Group (if you have not already). We now have almost 700 members in the group and I am so excited for the members to start sharing pictures of their fabric picks. If you want some feedback on possible fabric choices or have any questions during the quilt along, the Facebook is an excellent resource. You can find the Facebook Group right here. And now without further ado....July's instructions...Fabric Selection.
Fabric Requirements
The Meadow Mystery quilt is a lap sized quilt containing 5 different fabrics in the quilt top:
Fabric Selection Tips
Within these quilt instructions, the following colors will be used to represent the fabrics:
Due to the finished fabric piece sizes and piecing methods for the quilt top, it is recommended that fabric prints used have a
smaller scale, non-directional design.
Each of the fabric yardages above may be made using scraps of similar colors instead of a single fabric.
The following fabrics will be next to each other, please test your fabric selections to make sure that there is a good amount of contrast between the fabrics:
- A is next to B, C, and E
- B is next to A, D, and E
- C is next to A, D, and E
- D is next to B and C
- E is next to A, B, and C
E can be considered the main background of the quilt and D can be considered a secondary background of the quilt.
So that the eye has a place to rest within the quilt, it is suggested that a solid or a tone-on-tone print that reads as a solid be used for Fabric E.
It is helpful to create a sheet with your chosen fabrics and the corresponding pattern letters. This will help remind you of which fabric goes with which instruction letters as the quilt along progresses.
