Meadow Mystery Quilt - Sponsors - Other Prizes

Only 1 more week until the official start of the Meadow Mystery Quilt!  The first set of instructions (fabric requirements) will be posted on July 7th. You can find out more about the mystery quilt here.

We have now have over $750 in prizes!  The prizes will be given out randomly to those that submit a finished quilt or quilt top in the reveal parade in April 2017.

Because we have so many great sponsors, I have broken them up into a series of posts. I highlighted the five pattern design companies sponsoring the mystery quilt here and the five fabric and thread companies sponsoring the mystery quilt here.

I am highlighting five additional sponsors today...

Jan from Quilting Among the Grooves has been quilting along with me since the first mystery quilt! Last year, he gave any one of the most sought after prizes, custom longarm quilting of the mystery quilt (or an equivalent size quilt) and we are lucky enough that he has offered the prize again this year.

Mel B. was the winner last year you can see the fabulous job Jan did with the quilting on an already beautifully pieced top by Mel B. (she decided to have Jan quilt this lap quilt because she had already quilted her mystery quilt). You can read more about her quilt here and see more of Jan's work on his blog.

Winner provides the finished quilt top, backing and batting and shipping costs to Quilting Among the Groves. Quilting Among the Groves provides email or phone and photo consultation with semi-densely quilted all-over design, thread, and return shipping. (Due to shipping costs, this prize is limited to the US only).

Lara from Buzz in Bumble is donating a copy of her new book, Crafted Applique. The book is totally awesome, teaching a new way of applique that has the speed and ease of raw edge applique without any of the fraying. My of my fellow guild members I showed the book to summed it up best when she said, "This is a game changer".

Terri Ann of Mini Barn Quilts is donating 2 Mini Barn Quilt Kits, 1 Mod Podge and brush kit, a mini easel and a mini charm bundle, everything you need to make your own mini barn quilt! The kits are so much fun and easy to assemble. I made one with my son and the hardest part about the kit was picking out the fabrics!

Stephanie of Late Night Quilt and the Quilter's Planner is donating a 2017 Quilter's Planner for one lucky reader. I use my 2016 version all of the time, it is so great for keeping my professional, personal, and quilting lives organized and inspired.

Oliso, makers of the wonderful Smart Iron (the iron sits on little feet above the fabric and lowers with the simple touch of your hand), is donating one ironing board cover as a prize. This prize is for US mailing addresses only.

Square in a Square Paper Piecing Templates

I will totally admit that traditionally piecing small-sized Square in a Square blocks are not my favorite, sewing those bias triangle edges onto the squares can be sometimes very frustrating.

I think that the Square in a Square block (especially the smaller ones) are perfect for paper piecing.   Paper piecing means not having to worry about the bias side of the triangle moving while I sew or keeping a perfect 1/4" seam allowance.  Paper piecing is great for precision.

For a mini quilt I am making, I needed a bunch of 2" (finished) square in a square blocks.  I created the block template in Corel Draw and thought that the template might be helpful to other quilters.  So I drew out ten (10) templates for 2" up to 6 ½" square in a square blocks in ½" increments and put the them up (for free) by signing up for my Meadow Mist Designs Newsletter.

Please note: the file does not contain paper piecing or fabric cutting instructions, the file is only the templates for paper piecing.

When printing these templates, print at either “no scaling” or “100% scaling”.  Each page contains a test 1” square to ensure the correct sizing of the blocks.

I hope you find the templates useful :)

Happy Sewing!!

Meadow Mystery Quilt - Sponsors - Fabric and Thread

I am starting the count down to the start of the Meadow Mystery Quilt, only 14 more days from the first set of instructions (fabric requirements) being posted. You can find out more about the mystery quilt here.

We have now have over $700 in prizes, we picked up two more sponsors in the last week!  The prizes will be given out randomly to those that submit a finished quilt or quilt top in the reveal parade in April 2017.  Because we have so many great sponsors, I will be breaking them up into a series of posts.  I highlighted the five pattern design companies sponsoring the mystery quilt last week in a previous post.

Today, I want to highlight the five fabric and thread manufacturers and shops that are sponsoring the Meadow Mystery Quilt.  I hope that if you decide to purchase fabric for the quilt that you will consider checking these shops.

The Bear Creek Quilting Company is not only back again as a sponsor, providing a $25 gift certificate to their shop as a prize, they have also kitted the Meadow Mystery Quilt using the Gentle Breeze fabric collection by Maywood Studio!  Mre information about the kit will be posted on July 8th, a day after the fabric requirements are posted.

The Fat Quarter Shop is back again this year too, providing a generous $100 gift certificate to their shop as a prize.  I have worked with the FQS to create some curated shopping lists for some modern fabric options which will also be posted on July 8th.

I would like to welcome Westwood Acres as a sponsor of the Meadow Mystery this year.  Westwood Acres specializes in fabric bundles, both designer collections and Westwood Acre curated bundles.  Westwood Acres is donating a $50 gift certificate as a prize.

Just Sew Now is a wonderful UK based fabric shop and a new sponsor to the mystery quilt.  Just Sew Now has donated as a prize 8 fat quarters of the winner's choice (this giveaway is limited to the European Union).

Aurifil is also a new sponsor the Meadow Mystery Quilt.  You know that I love Aurifil!  It is my go to thread because the quality is wonderful, they have great colors, and my sewing machine loves it.  Aurifil is donating a The Basics Collection which contains 12 large 50 wt spools of thread.  This collection is awesome, it really contains so many go to quilting colors.

We have tons more prizes and sponsors to highlight, stay tuned :)
