For quilters coming over from the MQG, welcome! I hope you have a chance to take a look around my little blog including some of my recent finishes, my new book Modern Plus Sign Quilts, and the Modern Plus Sampler quilt along starting next month. You can also find me over on Instagram as MeadowMistDesigns.
Periodicity is a modern take on a periodic wave pattern that combines strong geometric shapes with bold colors. The quilt comes together quickly and easily using strip piecing.
Many thanks to:
For the quilting, I wanted to pick a quilting pattern that gave the quilt texture but did not take away from the design or the colors. I decided to quilt rows of loops that looked like continuous cursive "e" using matching thread colors for each fabric. I used 50 wt Aurifil thread in 2785 (dark blue), 2810 (turquoise), and 2115 (bright yellow) for the quilting. This meant a ton of tying off and burying threads, but I think I hope that the effect was worth it :)
I want to give a special thanks to Paige of Quilted Blooms and Yvonne of Quilting Jetgirl for their super pattern review skills!!
Many thanks to:
- Robert Kaufman for the Kona Cotton solids in Storm, Acid Lime, and Breakers
- The Warm Company for the Warm & White batting.
- Aurifil for the piecing and quilting thread.
