Day 2 - Just One Charm Pack Quilts Book Hop

Welcome to the second day of the Just One Charm Pack Quilts book hop!   Today I will be highlighting the Fishies and Star Surround quilts from the book and sharing sneak peeks from Michelle C of From Bolt to Beauty of her Medallion and Shelley of the Carpenter's Daughter of her Nine-Patch Challenge.

I am so happy to be able to share each of these quilts with you and give you a little insight into the designs.  Each pattern in the book uses a single charm pack, an additional fabric (called fabric A in the pattern) and a background fabric).

You can grab a copy of Just One Charm Pack Quilts on Amazon or get a signed copy in my shop.  As a bonus, if you purchase a signed copy from my shop, you can get one additional free stand alone pattern (digital or printed) by adding the book and a stand alone pattern ($12 value) and then using the coupon code HOPPATTERN (through the end of the hop 7/29) during checkout.

FISHIES QUILT

I think that the Fishies quilt is one of the sweetest quilt designs in the book and is perfect for a baby or young child.  It is one of the more challenging designs in the book with some bias edges to sew.  My version was made using a darker background for the sea and Carol Alperin used the perfect quilting design that looked like little waves and sea bubbles.  In Faye's version (Faye is on Instagram as FayeJones4444), she made one of the fish using the fabric A (also used in the border) and turned it around. so it was swimming against the school of fish.

STAR SURROUND

For Star Surround, my initial design idea used the charm squares in the points of the stars, but that would have required more than one charm pack.  I loved the design and the circle of stars so I reworked the pattern to use the charm squares in the center of the stars.

I actually wound up liking this version better than the original :)  The first version of Star Surround used a solids charm pack from Robert Kaufman called the Sunset Palette along with Kona Cotton Solids in Hibiscus and Thistle and the second version used an older charm pack I had in my stash called Fruta y Flor by Verna Mosquera for FreeSpirit Fabrics.

MICHELLE OF FROM BOLT TO BEAUTY - MEDALLION

Michelle Cain is a pattern designer and blogger based in Massachusetts. She broke into a bundle of Rae Ritchie's Sink or Swim collection--featuring mermaids, sailors, and sharks--to sew her version of the Medallion quilt. To read the full story, head to her post at From Bolt to Beauty.

SHELLEY OF A CARPENTER'S DAUGHTER WHO QUILTS - NINE-PATCH CHALLENGE

I have known Shelley for years, she is a fabulous pattern tester and makes the most beautiful memory quilts.  I love checking out her Facebook page to see all of the quilts she is making.

Note for Nine-Patch Challenge: Every pattern in this book has been tested twice and technical edited, but unfortunately mistakes still happen and for that I truly apologize. The pattern Nine-Patch Challenge on pages 84-88 of the Just One Charm Pack Quilts book contains an error in the cutting of the background fabric for the first printing of the book.  Many thanks to Shelley for finding the error and for C&T to work so quickly to get the fix in time for the second printing of the book.

Please see the Just One Charm Pack Quilts page for more information about the error and two options for the quilt design so that no fabric is wasted. Shelley used Option 2 adding a plus sign design to the background blocks which I think looks fabulous.  Head over to her FB page, The Carpenter's Daughter Who Quilts, to see the full quilt.

I hope that you enjoyed seeing these quilts and will check back tomorrow for more quilts :)

ABOUT THE BOOK

  5. I have ordered a copy as have a lot of charm packs and it will be so handy to have patterns that only need one pack - but I've ordered and not realised I could get a free pattern (didn't read the whole paragraph as was so excited about getting a signed copy to go with my Modern Plus book). Any chance we can do the pattern selection in retrospect and have it added to the book order? Silly me!

    1. And oops, that should have a 'please and thank you' added onto it.

  6. Thanks for hosting your book blog hop & I'm enjoying so much. Can't wait till my book arrives at Can Do Books in August, as I was going to order through you, but have had too much trouble with post during these difficult times. All the quilts look "charming" so far & some of the versions being shown are awe inspiring. I need this inspiration with not a lot of mojo for anything with another lockdown just announced which is No.5 for us here in Victoria as well as such a miserable winter. Take care & hugs.
