I am happy to announce that my Checkers quilt is finished and the pattern is being released today! The Checkers pattern is now available:
Checkers is a fun little twist on the classic nine-patch block by putting the blocks on point and adding sashing. My cats are already busy doing their quality assurance on it :)
The quilt pattern is a great throw sized quilt to highlight some of your favorite fat quarters, fat eighths, or scraps.
FABRICS & MATERIALS
The cover quilt is made with:
- Various scraps in pinks, teals, blues, and yellows
- Bella Solids in Smoke and White
The start of this quilt was a home decorating magazine cover with a picture of a fun, teenaged girl's room. I pulled color inspiration of the picture and then pulled different fat quarters and scraps from my stash with those colors.
I used my favorite Warm & White batting by the Warm Company and Aurifil thread for the piecing. I wanted to use a darker teal for the binding, but I did not have enough of any one print, so the binding is a mixture of two similarly toned prints.
For the backing, I went with an older Tula Pink wide-back print.
ABOUT THE QUILTING
I went with my one of my favorite quilting designs for Checkers, a large paisley shape. I love the larger scale of the design, the flow it gives the quilt, and how it adds texture without taking away from the piecing.

MANY THANKS
I would like to thank
Yvonne @Quilting Jetgirl for her amazing tech editing skills and quilting ideas. I would also like to thank the Warm Company for the Warm & White batting (my favorite!).
ADDITIONAL COLORWAYS
I design almost all of my quilt patterns using EQ8 (a computer-aided quilt design software from Electric Quilt) and I love seeing how different colors and prints can create such different looking quilts. Here are four different versions:
MORE PICTURES
I took a couple more pictures of Checkers... including one of Piper the cat modeling the quilt :)
