Morrison Park Blog Hop and English Trellis Pattern

I am so happy to be the blog kicking off Pat Sloan's new fabric line for Benartex called Morrison Park.  It is a great collection of pinks, reds, greens, and blues with great floral and blender prints.

Hint, hint - this post is long but there may be a super awesome fabric giveaway at the end...

NEW PATTERN ENGLISH TRELLIS USING MORRISON PARK FABRICS

Here is my new pattern, English Trellis, I made with the Morrison Park prints.  You can find the English Trellis in my pattern shop.

I started by picking 5 of the Morrison Park fabrics, then combined them with navy, white, and gray solids.

All fabrics in the collection.  You can pre-order Morrison Park fabrics from the Fat Quarter Shop.

Morrison Park fabrics I used.

I designed the quilt in EQ8 and was able to use the fabric images to render into a quilt top so I knew I would be happy with the colors and prints before I even started cutting. Pretty soon I had a pile of beautiful blocks finished.

FIGURE EIGHT QUILTING

Once I had the quilt top finished, I had to decide how to quilt it.  I went back and forth with quilting designs, from a simple stipple to complex custom quilting.

I decided to use the piecing to my advantage and quilt a large, allover figure eight motif using the 3" (finished) fabric pieces in quilt to keep my spacing and sizing even.  I used a similar pattern (on a 2" scale) on my ruler quilt you can see here.

I used Aurifil 50 wt thread in the soft white 2021 (my favorite) for all of the piecing and quilting.  Even though the white thread goes across the navy and gray fabrics, because the thread is fine, you can not see it much.

ENGLISH TRELLIS PATTERN

I made the lap size version of English Trellis, but the pattern contains instructions for baby, lap, twin, and king sizes.  It is prefect for a confident beginner quilter and is fat quarter (or scrap) friendly.

Many thanks to Yvonne of Quilting Jetgirl for professionally tech editing English trellis!

ADDITIONAL QUILT PICTURES

Here are some more pictures I took of the finished quilt top and quilt ...

I love this one with my new logo on it :)

BEHIND THE SCENES

When scouting out locations for the quilt photography I noticed a new fence had been installed behind a doctor's office near my house.  The fence was wet from a storm the night before giving the wood a deeper, richer tone.  The funny thing was that the fence was installed to block the view of an unsightly dumpster :)  Here is a zoomed out picture of the quilt.

PINTEREST PIC

I have been trying to learn Pinterest better and be more active in the program.  This has caused me to rearrange my boards, pins, and really focus on quilting.

In addition, I have been trying to make some more "pinnable" images.  Here is one of my creations if you would like to pin this pattern for later.  You can find me on Pinterest right here.

New Pattern ++ Candy Stripes

I am happy to be releasing two new patterns, Candy Stripes and Jelly Lanterns.  Today I will be highlighting Candy Stripes and tomorrow I will showcase Jelly Lanterns.  You can find it (for a special introductory price) here in my shop.

Candy Stripes originally appeared in the Quilter's Planner Magazine 2020 as a lap sized quilt.  I have expanded the pattern to contain three sizes: baby, lap, and twin.  All of the sizes are pre-cut friendly, fat eighths for baby, fat quarters for lap, and half yard cuts for twin.  The pattern has few seams to match and is perfect for a confident beginner quilter.

The cover quilt was made using solids from the Painters Palette Collection by Paintbrush Studios. All of the cover quilt photography is by Kitty Wilkins.

Candy Stripes was quilted by Johellen George, a local longarm quilter who used the most perfect and whimsical double loop quilting design.

Many, many thanks to Yvonne of Quilting Jetgirl for her spectacular tech editing skills!!

I had some fun playing around with different colorways, trying out darker backgrounds and making a holiday version.

Would you like to make your own Candy Stripes?  It is on sale for an introductory price of $9 for only 5 days through September 14th.

You can combine this special price with the introductory pricing on Jelly Lanterns and also with a coupon code for even more savings.

Use the coupon code "TWOPATTERNS" for $2 off 2 patterns and "THREEPATTERNS" for $4 off 3 patterns.

If you decide to make a Candy Stripes quilt, please share your progress and finished pictures on social media #CandyStripesQuilt and be sure to tag me @MeadowMistDesigns :)

Mosaic Mystery Quilt - Finished at Last!

My Mosaic Mystery quilt is finally finished!

I had the quilt top for the Mosaic Mystery quilt done forever ago (in early 2019 before the quilt along even started), but I had not gotten around to quilting it.  Then I started working on my book and the Mosaic Mystery Quilt had to be put to the side.

You can find a pdf version of the Mosaic Mystery quilt in my shop.

Because I was not able to finish it, I sent it to Carol Alperin (who quilted a large number of my book quilts) and told her to quilt it whenever she had time.  Carol did a beautiful job on the quilting, using a light pink thread in a flower kind of pattern.

You can find the Mosaic Mystery Quilt reveal party to see over 150 other versions of the quilt here.

And here are a bunch of other pictures, I love this finish so much that I tried to give it a photo shoot (as much as I was able).

I used Painter's Palette Solids from the Paint Brush Studio for the quilt.  They have the perfect light pink that I used for the backing.

If you are interested in making your own Mosaic Mystery Quilt you can find all of the information on the Mosaic Mystery Quilt blog page and find a pdf version of the Mosaic Mystery pattern in my shop.

Rope Basket #1

I saw a post on Instagram from The Mountain Thread Company asking for volunteers to try their new thicker rope.  I have always wanted to try to made a rope basket so I volunteered.  I was very excited to see I was picked and got my rope in the mail in a few days.

The Mountain Thread Company has a series of 6 short videos on their website covering from picking out the materials all the way through the construction of the basket. After I had picked out my fabric bits I was going to wind candy cane style on the rope, I jumped in.

I used a jeans needle (thicker and tougher), Aurifil 50 wt cotton thread, a zigzag stitch with a width of 7mm, and my Bernina 710.  I was worried with the bulkiness of the rope, my machine would have trouble sewing it or advancing the rope coil, but the sewing went so smoothly and easily.  I did not break a thread or needle.

The basket came together so quickly and I love the end result!  I think that everyone in my family (plus all of the teachers, coaches, scout leaders, etc) are going to get rope baskets this holiday season!

If you want to check out The Mountain Thread Company's ropes and videos, you can find them right here.

Note: The Mountain Thread Company provided me the rope at no cost.  They asked for honest feedback and did not ask for this post to be written.  I wanted to share my experience with the rope and my fun project with you.
