Morewood Mystery Quilt ++ Fabric Requirements

Welcome to the start of the Morewood Mystery Quilt!!  I am so excited to get started and I hope you are too!

About the Morewood Mystery Quilt Along - As a reminder, the Morewood Mystery Quilt is a free quilt along hosted on my blog (all instructions will be posted here) running from July 2020 through April 2021 with a set of directions revealed the first Thursday of every month.

The lap-sized mystery quilt is at an advanced beginner level containing basic piecing techniques (no applique, Y-seams, or paper piecing).

The directions and all of the other information related to the mystery quilt can always be found on the Morewood Mystery Quilt Page.

Share Your Progress
Facebook: I encourage you to join the Meadow Mist Designs Facebook Group (if you have not already).  We now have over 6,500 members in the group and I am so excited for the members to start sharing pictures of their fabric picks.  If you want some feedback on possible fabric choices or have any questions during the quilt along, the Facebook group is an excellent resource.

Social Media: Please share your progress pics on social media with the hashtag #MorewoodMysteryQuilt and tag me at @MeadowMistDesigns.

Sponsors -
We have 16 generous sponsors with over $1000 in prizes being awarded randomly in the reveal parade in April 2021.  You can read about the sponsors and prizes here.

Fabric Kits - On this post right below the fabric selection tips are some fabric kits available from the Bear Creek Quilting Company, Needle & Foot, and Bernina We're in Stitches. You do not need to use a kit to make this quilt, you can use your own fabrics you already have or purchase and use any you like.

Unmystery Quilt - If you signed up for the un-mystery quilt option, you should receive an e-mail today showing the design, some colorway options, the kit options, and a quilt top coloring page. You can e-mail me at MMDmysteryquilts@gmail.com if you have any questions or do not receive the file.

If you would like a sneak peek now, you can click the following link get one: Un-Mystery Sneak Peek

Remember, the only rule is that you have to keep the design completely to yourself as to not spoil anyone else's surprise.

Easy to Print Instructions - Each month, the instructions will be posted as a blog post on the Meadow Mist Designs blog.  Now that the Mystery Quilt has ended, you can find a easy to print, full version of the pattern for sale in my pattern shop.

And now without further ado....July's instructions...remember, you have an entire month to get your fabric, the next set of instructions comes out on Thursday, August 6th.

Fabric Requirements

The Morewood Mystery quilt is a lap sized quilt and contains 4 different fabrics plus a background fabric in the quilt top:

Fabric Selection Tips

  • It is suggested that a solid or a tone-on-tone print that reads as a solid be used for the background fabric.
  • Due to the finished fabric piece sizes and piecing methods for the quilt top, it is recommended that fabric prints used have a non-directional design.
  • Each of the fabrics may be made using scraps of similar colors instead of a single fabric if desired. Generally, the pieces within the quilt will be 6" x 6" or smaller.
  • Within the quilt, all of the A, B, C, and D fabrics are adjacent the background fabric, but none of the A, B, C, or D fabrics are next to each other.
  • In these instructions, the background is shown as white, but the quilt design looks very good with other colors and tones of background (light, medium, and dark) as long as the A-D fabrics have good contrast with the background color.
PATTERN NOTES:
  • Width of fabrics (WOF) for this pattern is assumed to be 40".
  • A scant ¼" (a thread width smaller than ¼") seam is to be used throughout the construction of the quilt unless otherwise instructed.

    1. I do not believe that there is a way of adding a photo to a blogger comment. You can add a picture to the FB group or on social media (instagram, twitter, etc) using the hashtag #morewoodmysteryquilt.

    1. I have not heard of this issue. Maybe download the pdf onto your computer and then print from there. It might be an issue printing from google drive?

  5. Thanks so much, Cheryl, for hosting another great mystery quiltalong. I LOVE that you give us an "unmystery" option. I always look at the pattern and then try to forget it just knowing that I liked what I saw. And thank you for these color options. You've made my fabric choices so much easier----and sometimes THAT'S the hardest part of making a quilt! Blessings from southeastern WV...looking forward to more Morewood Mystery!
