One Lovely Blog Award

I am very honored to have been nominated for the Lovely Blog Award by three wonderful quilters. For the award you are supposed to write a post acknowledging who nominated you, include some things that your readers might not know about you, and nominate some of your favorite bloggers for the award.

I was nominated by:

Please take a minute and check out their wonderful blogs which are full of beautiful quilts and great tutorials.

Seven Facts You May Not Know About Me

1.  My favorite place to vacation is Volcano National Park on the Big Island of Hawaii. I have visited twice, getting to hike through the Kilauea caldera and seeing the lava glowing at night.  One day I hope to get back and bring my little ones.

2.  During college, I was a member of the Kiltie marching band at Carnegie Mellon University planning the bassoon and the xylophone.  We wore kilts and sporrans and did very little marching.

3.  My favorite movie is hands down The Princess Bride.  I own it on VHS and need to purchase a new DVD version.  (Here is a mini I did in tribute to the movie).

4.  I don't eat anything from the sea.  No fish, shrimp, shellfish, seaweed, etc.

5.  I work as a patent agent for a private textile and carpet company filing patents on our researchers' inventions and fighting governments around the world to get the patent applications to grant.  Even at work I get to play with fabrics on an almost daily balance.

6.  I hold 49 US Patents as the inventor for my work on printing substrates and liquid crystal display components.  I am hoping number 50 comes later this year.

7.  I really like quilty math (okay, I am guessing you already knew that one :)

And now onto the fun part, I get to nominate a whole bunch of other wonderful quilter/bloggers! In no particular order, I would like to nominate...

  2. Cheryl, I don't know how you do it! I know the demands of your job, and then having littles and to still have time to devote to quilting and your blog and designing patterns? Amazing!

Congrats on the 49 patents! Definitely an accomplishment for which to be very proud!! And Princess Bride is my husband's absolute favorite movie as well. I had never seen it before meeting him. . . needless to say I've seen it many times and quotes from that movie are uttered at my house a lot! :) Your mini quilt in tribute is awesome!

  3. Do you still play any music? I was in the band (and marching band) through my 2nd year of college and I have to say that I haven't really played since then. Also, what a perfect kind of marching band: one that doesn't march much! :) Even in my pre-vegetarian days I did not like seafood, although I do have to say that I love sushi, so I guess I do eat seaweed on occasion. And how awesome to have so many patents!

  6. "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You keeled my father; preparrre to die!" LOL or 'No more rhymes now-I really mean it!" ..."Anybody wanna peanut?!" So many more...Oh man, it is hands down my favourite and both of my daughters' favourite movies. I even used it with my grade 7s in the Fantasy Unit I used to teach in English Language Arts. Great irony, great humour, great romance..."is there kissing?" I love you even more now I know this! I got rid of my VHS for a DVD a few years ago. I just love that mini. Seriously. 49 patents? whoa. Quilty math, yep I know that ! Thanks for sharing. :-)

  7. What fun Cheryl!
Our whole family speaks Princess Bride and, even years later, we weave the lines into everyday conversations. What a great movie! And it is also one that stuck to the original book beautifully!
Being in a marching band that gets to wear kilts and not march much sounds ideal! LOL
Wowzers - 49 patents and coming up on 50! I am not really sure what printing substrates and liquid crystal display components even are but am awfully impressed!
We are very lucky to have you guiding us through the Midnight Mystery quilt along and figuring out the math for us!
