Welcome to the Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day!
This is my second time participating in the Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day. I love Sew Mama Sew (I recently became a Sew Mama Sew Contributor) and I enjoy spending
A lovely women and fellow South Carolinian named Michelle who has an etsy shop called Vintage Modern Fabrics is helping to sponsor this giveaway.
Up for grabs is a Tula Pink Fabric Bundle Blender Bundle which includes
18 Fat Quarters from the Tula Pink Acacia, Salt Water, Birds and Bees collections
shipped anywhere in the US. That is four and a half yards of Tula Pink goodness! (Just looking at the picture is making me drool, I am going to have to pick one up for myself).
For those who are new here, here is a little about myself (for those that are returning, thank you!).
My name is Cheryl and I am a chemical engineer/patent agent by day, a quilter at night, a mom to a 7 year old son and 4 year old daughter, and a wife. I love designing quilt patterns, writing quilt instructions, and doing quilty math combining my quilting skills with my engineering and technical writing backgrounds.
I sell my patterns and sewing accessories on etsy (as Meadow Mist Designs) and patterns on craftsy (craftsy also has a couple of free patterns).
Over the last few months I have had the privilege of becoming a Moda Bake Shop Chef, becoming a Sew Mama Sew Contributor, launching a few new patterns, and stretching myself as a quilter to learn new things. It is going to be an exciting rest of 2014 so I hope that you will decide to join me in my quilty adventures. Here are a few of my recent finishes...
Once again, this giveaway is open to only the US and is for a Tula Pink Fabric Bundle Blender Bundle which includes 18 Fat Quarters from the Acacia, Salt Water, Birds and Bees collections. This giveaway starts today (Monday May 12th) and will run until Friday May 16th at 8 p.m. EST. (The fabric will shipped directly to you from Vintage Modern Fabrics)

ReplyDeleteJust checked out the etsy shop.
ReplyDeleteIt depends on if I feel like doing math or not....
ReplyDeleteI follow on Bloglovin!
ReplyDeleteI liked them on FB!
ReplyDeleteMy son, who will be a freshman in college this fall, aspires to be a chemical engineer so your blog really intrigued me when I read your profile! For quilts, I usually follow patterns but I've designed the last 3 quilts I've made and I enjoyed the process. It takes longer for me to figure everything out, but I've been pleased with the results!
ReplyDeletetstanulis@verizon.net
I follow your blog!
ReplyDeletetstanulis@verizon.net
I tend to make my own designs for the same reasons as you a math and science background with hobbies in the arts :-). Thanks for the give away Cheryl :-)
ReplyDeleteI follow happily via bloglovin
ReplyDeleteI 'favorited' your Etsy shop. It will show up as being from StitchinGalTX as that is my Etsy shop.
ReplyDeletetstanulis@verizon.net
I tend to design my own. My dad is an engineer and I think that love of math is sort of ingrained in me. That seems like part of the fun of quilting-doing the puzzle of designing the pattern!
ReplyDeleteWow, great blog! Greetings from San Diego!

ReplyDeleteFavorited Vintage Modern. What a great shop! I'm always searching for good shops online :)
ReplyDeleteThese fabrics are gorgeous! Thanks so much for a great giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI almost always make things up as I go along.
Hi! So far I've only used patterns for my quilts. So many great ones out there!
ReplyDeleteI favorited Vintage Modern on etsy. Cool fabrics!
ReplyDeleteI love Tula Pink! I'm a lover of a good pattern.
ReplyDeleteI love that bundle. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I just started following you on Feedly.
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous fabric. thanks for having the giveaway.
ReplyDeletefrani(at)grammyshands(dot)us
I favorited your shop on Etsy (grammygeek)
ReplyDeletefrani(at)grammyshands(dot)us
I tend to sew stuffed toys for charity more than quilts (still a beginner quilter) so that fabric would end up in dolls and other critters (mostly from purchased or free patterns)
ReplyDeleteFollowing via bloglovin
ReplyDeleteI'm terrible at following patterns so I usually end up making up my own pattern. Sweet giveaway of fat quarters!
ReplyDeleteI follow you around on Bloglovin!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win. I just finished my first quilting project: some placemats for my sister for Mother's Day :) bonandclyde AT hotmail DOT com.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI never make quilts. I'm not precise enough for such an undertaking. :)
ReplyDeleteI love this giveaway...thanks!
ReplyDeleteFavorite on Etsy!
ReplyDeleteI follow by email.
ReplyDeletePretty thank you
ReplyDeleteOkay, I thought I was going nuts, but you did do the half-squares triangle pillow featured on the SMS website with the Oakshott cotton, though NOT part of the tote challenge they were having. I saw it in your "recent finishes" and then tried to backtrack it. I'm also a scientist who loves to craft, but I feel like I am not so good at triangles, so I usually stick more with the prints on fabrics to add to the visual appeal. Regardless, I'm highly impressed with the variety of quilts you've made. And the range in colors, patterns, and styles.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think that many beautiful fat eigths may be a bad thing in terms of my ability to do my current To-Sew list! Too many ides!
Thanks for the amazing offer! elizabeth.waligora (at) gmail.com
I tend to look at a picture, and then create my own pattern. Though, if a free pattern is handy, I use that. I have also paid for patterns - I am all over the place! Email is saskpb@yahoo.com. This fabric makes me drool.......
ReplyDeleteI also added this shop as a favorite on Etsy saskpb@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI think buying a pattern is well worth the savings in time and headache! I'm not so good at making my own - too little patience, or time! I've also made quilts from free patterns. So much quilty talent out there!
ReplyDeleteI also have an Etsy shop - Mountain Quiltworks. I've hearted your shop and will be checking up on you in the future!
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower on Bloglovin'. Nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteOMG, TULA! Yum. I tend to do both. If the quilt is super complicated, and I really need one, I'll purchase the pattern. But I design a lot of my own too. :) Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI like trying out my own patterns most of the time, but follow ones I find online if I really like them or think they are especially awesome looking. :)
ReplyDeletecraftinomicon(at)gmail(dot)com
I tend to look at things on the Internet and just wing it. Sometimes they work out and sometimes they don't!
ReplyDeleteWonderful giveaway, thank you! Love your style!
ReplyDeleteI follow you using Bloglovin!
ReplyDeleteliked you on FB! Can't wait to see more from you.
ReplyDeleteIn the past I exclusively used patterns or images I saw online and followed them faithfully. I am now branching out to trying to create my own designs and having a lot of fun doing so!
ReplyDeletealso favorited vintage modern on etsy. I feel that may be a costly choice......
ReplyDeleteoh, these are so pretty! I'm 50-50 on patterns -- sometimes I use them, sometimes I like to do it myself.
ReplyDeleteI've only made a couple of quilts, but designed them myself.
ReplyDeleteI like to design my own, but they are definitely inspired by things I see on blogs!
ReplyDeleteI really like your 2013 Kona Colors mini quilt. I've used some free patterns online and drawn some up for myself, but I haven't purchased any quilt patterns yet.
ReplyDeleteI usually make quilts using free patterns online! It's amazing how many beautiful free patterns there are!
ReplyDeleteI like to design my own but if I see a design I like, I pick up the pattern.
ReplyDeleteI follow on Bloglovin. Thanks for the chance at that beautiful fabric.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy designing my own patterns--though once I make them, I rarely remember the measurements/amounts of fabrics so I don't share the patterns!
ReplyDeleteI usually make quilts following some sort of pattern (usually from
ReplyDeleteModa bake shop or similar) - although I just designed my first quilt for my brother and had so much fun doing it, I may be doing it more often!
I'm a new follower on blog lovin!
ReplyDeleteI totally fave'd you on etsy. 😋
ReplyDeleteWow, what a yummy photo of your fabric giveaway! Right now, I'm working on a wall hanging with fabric I ice cube dyed last summer.
ReplyDeleteI do a little of both. I purchased an encyclopedia of quilt blocks and love to go through the designs in there. Most patterns can be easily figured out. However, I also will buy specific patterns if they look completely new and unique since I want to give credit to the author (or it is applique).
ReplyDeleteA little of both. If I see a block I like, I'll use that as a pattern and them kinda build around it doing my own thing. Thank you for the wonderful give-away chance!
ReplyDeleteYes, I do follow. Again, thank you for participating in this fun give away time.
ReplyDeleteI prefer to make quilt from my own ideas/patterns, which are often inspired by someone else's quilt or pictures. I love that with quilting everything old can become new again.
ReplyDeleteI follow you with bloglovin.
ReplyDeleteI follow you via bloglovin
ReplyDeleteI usually follow patterns - I get a lot of ideas and inspirations from the blogs I follow (too many) and have a stockpile of patterns and ideas stored on my computer - don't think I will get to them all but I will sure try
ReplyDeleteI do love to work with patterns I've purchased, either individual or out of a book. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI am a bloglovin follower.
ReplyDeleteThose a lovely fabrics! I generally follow patterns, although I reserve the right to change them based on what I happen to have in my stash!
ReplyDeleteI follow you on feedly!
ReplyDeletei design most of the quilts i make, usually for the person they are going to.
ReplyDeleteI love to follow a pattern but every now and then I just do my own thing. Working on a pattern for sale in my etsy shop soon. Best of luck and thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteohhh my those fabrics are wonderful. I tend to use both patterns I've bought and free patterns. I've "designed" a couple of quilts, but they were very simple ones that weren't really complex.
ReplyDeleteI follow you with bloglovin
ReplyDeleteUsually use a quilt pattern when making a quilt but don't rule out changing things up a bit sometimes.
ReplyDeleteFollow Vintage Modern Fabrics on Etsy now.
ReplyDeleteWow I love Vintage Modern's shop and I have marked it as a favorite because I want to go back and order a couple of things
ReplyDeleteI use my own patterns, freebies and purchased patterns---it has to be intriguing for me to want to purchase it though, as I have so many patterns in my stash already!
ReplyDeleteFollow you on bloglovin.
ReplyDeleteI follow with bloglovin.....thanks for a great giveaway!
ReplyDeletethanks so much for the great giveaway!! fantastic fabrics! I am still a newbie so unless it's a very basic block (hst, nine-patch, etc), i use a pattern.

ReplyDeleteMy daughter wants to make a quilt and I promised that I would work with her on a quilt. If I won, this would be used for our quilt.
ReplyDeleteI follow you by email as babyblue@windstream.net and on bloglovin at http://bloglovin.com/cherylrahkonen.
ReplyDeleteI visited the Vintage Modern fabric shop on etsy and favorited the shop. I love the Mini Disco Quilt Pattern.
ReplyDeleteOoh gorgeous fabrics! Most quilts I've made have been from what I've had on hand so my version of a quilt I've seen or a technique I want to try. If I'm making something really nice for someone I have followed a pattern from some quilting books.
ReplyDeleteI also follow you on bloglovin. I think I found you through the last giveaway extravaganza. I'm not a huge quilter but your designs really stuck out to me.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful and colorful stack of fabric you're offering! Not sure yet which quilt I would make with them. (I have so many on my "want to do" list!)
ReplyDeleteI have been a quilter for 30+ years and find that I am really enjoying the new, modern quilters and their designs. You have breathed new life into quilting! Don't get me wrong, I still love the traditional and hand applique in particular, but love the new fabrics! These Tula Pink fabrics are absolutely yummy! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteLove Tula Pink! Thanks for the chance.

ReplyDeleteI "favorited" Vintage Modern Fabrics on Etsy. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI love your patterns! Glad to have visited your blog.
ReplyDeleteI usually make my own patterns. I sketch an idea, figure out measurements, play with colors and fabrics, and go from there! It's such a fun part of the process. :)
Thank you very much for the chance.
I tend to use a lot of free tutorials and patterns from books I've purchased.
ReplyDeleteI favorited Vintage Modern, and I'm so glad I did. I now want everything in the shop!

ReplyDeleteThese fabrics look beautiful! Thanks for doing the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI made vintage modern fabric shop a favorite on etsy
ReplyDeleteI've made one quilt and I kind of made it up as I went along. It was for my son's 3rd birthday and it turned out well. It was just squares. Now my other 2 kids want one too. So I just started cutting fabric for my daughter's one. I read about disappearing 9 patches online, so I will try that. Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI favourited your etsy shop.
ReplyDeleteI make a lot of sample quilts for my LQS. Thanks for the generous giveaway!
ReplyDeleteOh...I love Tula Pink. Pick me!
ReplyDeleteI follow via email.
ReplyDeleteOMG those are so beautiful! Love the bright colors! I tend to get the fabric picked out and just feel it out. But I test a lot of patterns also. I can't say I have acutally purchased any unless it was for a household item or something. I do however do a lot of quilt alongs and tutorials so I guess I am just a cheapo lol!
ReplyDeleteVintage Modern Fabrics on Etsy is now a fav of mine!

ReplyDeleteVery nice shop I see they have the dream vintage line! One of my favs may have to make a purchase!

Beautiful fabric. Thanks for participating. For quilt, I see things I like then modify them a bit.
ReplyDeleteI also favorited the etsy shop!
ReplyDeleteI tend to combine ideas from free patterns with making my own - I love sitting down with graph paper and colored pencils and plotting stuff out. :)
ReplyDeleteI tend to make quilts from free patterns or tutorials. I tend to be more crafty than creative, so I don't generally try to design things myself. I even have my oldest daughter help me pick fabrics because I am unsure of myself in that regard.

ReplyDeleteI do all three, just depends on what I see and like, or want to accomplish! thanks for the chance to win this beautiful fabric.
ReplyDeleteLove the Etsy shop!
ReplyDeleteI usually quilt via quilt alongs. Bite sized pieces at a time, and I still get a great quilt in a timely manner. And I don't have to think about anything! It's great!
ReplyDeleteOh, that shop is lovely. Some great Eye Candy going on. I want to touch it all.
ReplyDeleteIf I see a quilt that I really like, I will look at it closely and try to recreate the pattern at home without buying it. I do have a few quilt patterns but haven't ever made one.

Drool is right! Those are gorgeous. I tend to make quilts from patterns in books.
ReplyDeleteI follow you through bloglovin.
ReplyDeleteI make quilts from purchased patterns, free patterns and patterns I design on my own. Whatever makes me happy at the time.
ReplyDeleteI definitely do a mix. If I use a pattern, I often change it in some small way to suit me - either take the borders off or put a border on (less piecing!), make it bigger or smaller, etc. But I definitely like patterns because I hate math. So, when I have to do math, everything takes much, much longer :) Great giveaway - thanks so much for the chance!
ReplyDeleteI usually use patterns from internet blogs as well as purchased patterns.
