Favorite Finish Monthly Linkup - May 2020

Welcome to May's Favorite Finish Monthly Linkup!

Another month has passed, I hope that everyone is safe and doing well.

This month marked two important events for me:

1.  I now have a teenager!  My son turned 13 in early May.  I can't believe that he has gotten so old.

2.  I mailed off the 36 quilts for my book!  I made 20 of the quilts and local quilters made 16.  I had a lot of help from Carol Alperin who did the quilting on about half of the quilts. I never would have been able to make the deadline otherwise.

Here are 36 quilts all boxed up and ready to mail.  The 3 boxes together weighed just under 75 pounds.

Please link up your favorite finish from April and take a few minutes to see everyone else's finishes.  Remember, you can link a picture right from your computer, you do not need an Instagram or blog post.

Ready for the party?

Here is a reminder of the party details:
  • The linky party will open at 12:01am EST on the last day of the month and will be open for 5 days, through the 4th at 11:59 pm EST.
  • For instructions on how to link up blog, Instagram, or pictures from your computer (new - there is now a way to just upload a picture without a web link) to the party, click here.
  • If linking a blog post, I ask that you please add a link back to the party (and the button graphic if you would like).
  • Please visit at least 3 other links (and preferably leave comments) to share the love and celebration :)
I hope you join in by checking out the posts or linking your favorite finish of the month!

You are invited to the Inlinkz link party!

Fabric Destash!

Now that my book quilts are finished, I went to clean up the crazy messy space I call my sewing room and I did not have room to put all of the fabric away.  You know what that means....fabric destash!

I have pre-cuts, bundles, scrap packs, and more listed in the Fabric Destash section of my shop.

Please note:
  • Shipping is limited to the US due to shipping costs.  If you are international and wish to purchase, contact me.
  • All fabrics are from my stash in my sewing room.  My house is smoke-free, but pet friendly.
  • Questions about any of the fabrics?  I am happy to answer any questions about fabric sizes, designers, shipping, etc before you purchase. You can reach me at MeadowMistDesigns@gmail.com.
  • Shipping:  I will try to ship the most economical way, using either USPS first class or USPS flat rate mailers based on size and weight.  I will refund any shipping overage charges of $0.15 or more.

Washi Dress ++ Fleet and Flourish

As part of Made by Me May and for the May Aurifil Artisan Challenge, I decided myself to make a garment.  As most of you know, I am a garment novice, preferring to stick to the mostly straight lines and two dimensions of quilt making.

I actually made a Washi dress back in 2013 (yes, 7 years ago!) using some cheap fabric I got from JoAnn's as a wearable muslin.  I have actually gotten a lot of wears out of my old dress, so I figured that it might be time to revisit the pattern and make a new one.

I had originally gotten this Fleet and Flourish print by Maureen Cracknell for Art Gallery Prints for a quilt backing, but I loved the design so much and the fabric felt so soft and light that I kept it because I knew that I eventually wanted to make a dress or shirt out of it.  (I was able to find the print still available on Etsy right here and on Amazon here.)

Here is my Washi Dress:

I made a few alterations to the pattern this time around.  I lengthened the torso portion of the pattern by 2 inches because in the first version, the waist seam was actually located on my bust.  I also lengthened the dress by just a couple of inches so it would hit me at my knee.

It is starting to get hot here in South Carolina so I opted for a sleeveless version, which also had the benefit of making the sewing go that much quicker.

I had a great time sewing up this dress, the inside is not pretty but the seams are finished so it won't fall apart in the wash :)

And just to revisit 2013, here my younger self in my original Washi...

Have you made any garments this May?

Morewood Mystery Quilt-Along Announcement!!!

I am very excited to announce that the next mystery quilt, the Morewood Mystery Quilt will begin in about two months on July 2nd!

The Morewood Mystery Quilt is a free quilt-along that will run from July 2020 through April 2021 with a set of directions revealed the first Thursday of every month.

We will kick off the quilt-along on Thursday, July 2nd with the fabric requirements and some helpful hints to pick fabrics and colors (you will have an entire month to gather fabrics before the cutting instructions in August).

Here are some more details about the upcoming mystery quilt...

1. Quilt-along instructions

The monthly instructions will be posted to this blog as blog posts (and can always be found on the Morewood Mystery Page).  I will be attaching a link to the downloadable, easy to print, pdf versions of the instructions right into each monthly instruction blog post.  There is no need to sign up to get the instructions, they will be posted here each month.

To make sure that you do not miss any posts, make sure that you are subscribed to the blog (here are some links for following... BloglovinEmail).

2. Prizes

We will have many prizes, so many great prizes! Prizes will be given out randomly to quilters who submit finished quilts or quilt tops to the reveal parade in April 2021.  I am working with sponsors to finalize the prizes and will be posting more about the sponsors and prizes as the start date to the mystery quilt approaches.

3. The un-mystery quilt

Want to join in the fun but making a mystery quilt is not your thing? I totally understand and offer a sneak peek of the design!

If you would like to see the final pattern to decide whether to join in or to help pick colors, you can sign up to receive the Un-Mystery Quilt Sneak Peek.  The sneak peek will be sent out on Thursday, July 2nd and will contain the sneak peek, multiple colorway renderings, and a coloring page.

  • The only rule is that you have to keep the design completely to yourself as to not spoil anyone else's surprise.
  • This sign up is only for a sneak peek and will not be used for sending out instructions.
  • This is a fresh signup so if you want the sneak peek you need to sign up, even if you had signed up for last year's sneak peek.

4. Facebook group

We have over 5,000 members in our Facebook Group (Meadow Mist Designs Facebook Group) sewing together! Join the group today so you can share and see everyone else's fabric, progress pictures, and finished quilts.

5. Previous Mystery Quilts

The instructions for my previous mystery quilts are located in the Mystery Quilt tab above (and are always available so you can start them at any time).

6. Questions?

If you have any questions regarding my mystery quilts you can e-mail me at MMDmysteryquilts@gmail.com or leave your question in a comment below.
