Foothills Quilt Guild Challenge Quilt Reveal

My quilt guild (the Foothills Piecemakers Quilt Guild) had a challenge due at our March meeting (last night).  The challenge was to:

“EXPRESS YOURSELF”!

The challenge:  Create a quilt that contains a word or words.
 1.       Must contain a readable, recognizable word or words.
 2.      Size – any one side a minimum 12” and a maximum 30”
 3.      Three layers – top, filler and backing.
 4.      Finishing-choose your own style of keeping 3 layers together and treating the edges.

Here was my entry at 13.5" x 17":

I love the Princess Bride and right as we got the instructions for the challenge I came across a quilt and stitch along hosted by fandominstitches.com.  The blog banner became my inspiration for the challenge quilt.

I used about 30 different low volume text prints pieced as the background with randomly spaced straight line quilting.  Then I appliqued the people, hills, and words onto the quilt.

There were some amazing mini quilts shown at the reveal (including my super quilty friend Brenda who won second place) and though I did not win the challenge, I had a very fun time playing with the fabrics and making something just for fun.

  8. I saw this on your '2014 Finishes' page, I read "As you wish" and couldn't help but smile, so I had to click to see more :) I think I have to buy 'The Princess Bride' now.
